Power for cd player

I have my rcvr's 12v switch going to my power conditioner, and my power conditioner turns on and off the sub amps and the cd player.
When I power up the system I still have to power up the cd player but when I shut down the rcvr. power gets cut to everything.

My question is... Is it ok to turn off my cd player this way? Just cutting off the power?

I have been carefull not to do this so far, I allways power down the cdp before the rcvr but I am wondering if I need to bother.

My last cdp (sony) died a couple of months after I got the p/c and I thought it may be because of letting the p/c disconnect power from the unit while it was playing and all.

Is there a better way to hook it up?

Thanx

I think it would be pretty much the same as a manual power switch. I don't think I'd do it while it's spinning a disc. I'm just throwing out wild guesses...

I would say as long it's the player is not spinning anything you should be fine. I don't see how your method and just hitting the power switch would make any difference.

I am afraid someone else will shut off the Rcvr. first while something is playing.
This was how I was shutting down the sony until it broke.
    Thanks for the input.

I always power down my amps first, then the preamp, then the source for the two channel rigs. This helps to drain the power out of the amps so that you don't thump your speakers.

For the home theater with the receiver I power down the receiver first too. Never had any problems.

I think michael w is right that as long as the cd is not playing I should be fine.

It will work fine even if the CD player IS still playing, won't hurt a thing.

I have never been able to train the wife to stop the CD player before hitting power off, and I haven't lost one yet (wife, or CD player).

I think it would make a difference depending on what kind of power switch you had. I don't really know the technical terms but if you had one that hits a switch and tells the cdp to stop everything and power down it would be fine, however if you had one that is a mechanical disconnect from the power without doing anythign else it might be harmful over time.

Mine just cuts the power, it's controlled by a Panamax. Why would you think it would harm the player if it is still spinning? I admit, I prefer stopping it first, but I have no logical explanation why.

My wife listens to the stereo daily, and almost always shuts it off while still playing, and without lowering the volume on the pre/pro, which are BOTH things I always do before powering down. I do it out of habit.

I just replaced my 14 year old Sony ES player, and gave it to a friend. Still works perfectly.
