ABX test

Been wanting to do this for a while, and the power cord debate pushed me over the edge. You get to look at three circles "A", "B", and "X". A and B are a different color. X is a duplicate of either A or B, you try to tell which one X is. Rules are you can look at A and B as long as you want, but not at the same time. No Cutting and pasting them side by side. Then you look at X and make your decision. Again, no cheating. No doing a side by side comparing of any of them. You can not look at any two of them toghther. Or all three of them toghther for that matter :)

EDIT: IMPORTANT::::: Try not to look at other people's answers untill after you have given your answer. Don't want to to be swayed.

    The answer is A - it is *very* apparent that A is darker than B when you put them side by side, and PSP 7 agrees with my opinion.

    However, looking at them on here by memory - I can't tell which one is different, without guessing of course... I would of guessed B to be honest...

    X = B

    It has nothing to do with darkness/lightness

    I could tell A was a bit darker than B. X is also a bit darker than B there fore X=A or A=X

    da pitchers in da posts, u look at em and pick which one x is, a or b

    and i HATE that cylinder picture, it angers me... mathematically, the colours are the same, but that's like measuring speakers with computers and saying A is better than B when you clearly hear B to be better (in your mind)... is color perception, or is it numbers... hmm...

    Spawn -- this is an interesting thread. My question is -- whereas this example is visual and the power cord example is auditory, does our visual memory work in the same manner as our audible memory?

    does our visual memory work in the same manner as our audible memory?

    I have no clue, I just thought I would see if people could tell the difference between the two.

    I read recently that ABX test only tell you wether the person taking the test could tell the difference between the two items under the given circumstances. My little very unscientific test seems to prove it. No one could really tell the difference between the two shades of gray unless you look at them side by side.

    The darker dot will have more bass with chocolaty midrange and the lighter dot will have airy highs and slightly more sibilance.

    The little dot off to the bottom left of each circle is in a different position on A and B, and X is closer to B. The shade may be different but so is the dot :rolleyes:

    this test is moot, neither of these circles have been properly "burned-in".

    Hook the circles up to some pink noise for about 30 days, then re-test everyone.
