It's a tough choice between Clint and Mel but you can't really beat Mad Max (Roadwarrior in particular) so I chose Mel. Arnold was pretty good as Conan and the first Terminator was decent, other than that it's pretty mediocre at best.

Arnold and Bruce are in the lead so far. I chose Arnold because of movies like "Eraser" and "Conan the Barbarian", which are some of my favorites. Not to mention the Terminator series.

Clint Eastwood. From the man with no name to Dirty Harry, he is THE toughguy.

From the list it's either Mel or Clint.

Where's the "DUKE"???? You gotta add the Duke to make the list complete.

Clint is the man. Its a hard choice between Clint, Arnold and Mel but Arnold's contributions and enthusiasm for bodybuilding/weightlifting gave him the definite edge for me. I was a big fan of Arnolds before he was such a huge star.

    Long live the Austian Oak!

Sorry about that. I left him and Charles Bronson off. They did make the list, just not enough room. Hell, I could have left off Cruise and Van Damme since they have zero. I can only get 10 choices.

Hey, Justin. Up the annie on the amount of poll choices, to what 15 maybe? ;) so I can add John Wayne and Charles Bronson. :D

Arnold is nothing but a big guy that carries big guns, he wasn't very tough but his guns were.

Mel, two films do not a tough guy make. Mad Max and Road Warrior were good and he was kinda tough but nothing like Clint. More of a girly tough here.

Both Mel and Arnold could not give off the tough guy impression like Clint, nor could the Duke.

Several on that list I wouldn't even consider tough guys.

    Got to be the Govenator.
He has more action movies that I actually enjoy watching.
Mel had a couple of good ones but also a few chick flicks and real stinkers.
I can not imagine anyone voting for Van Damn-it or Cruise, I would say you could afford to replace them with some old school actors if you wanted.

    Good thread BTW

I'm not sure I can come up with 10. But, for tough guys, some of my favs are...

    Clint Eastwood
    Jean Reno
    Gary Oldman
    Edward Norton
    Gene Hackman
    Powers Boothe

Action Hero's are a totally different catagory.

Well, I'd say Lethal Weapons, Braveheart and Patriot do count as tough guy movies. A bit different than Clint's. Thunderdome is forgettable but I can't think of another bad Gibson movie at the moment. Honestly though I would have chosen Clint with Mel a close second if it wasn't for the RoadWarrior.

I voted for Clint even though he really isn't an action hero. Movies like The Unforgiven, Escape From Alcatraz, Thunderbolt And Lightfoot, In the Line of Fire, The Eiger Sanction, Dirty Harry, The Good The Bad.., etc really makes him the best tough guy!

Ron does have a point. Even in that girlie flick "Bridges of Madison County" Clint still acted like he would kick your ****. Clint is the original bad **** and all around tough guy.

However I also took into consideration the movies. I love all of Arnolds movies (except that steaming pile of crap 'Junior') where some of Clints I didnt care for.

Gene Hackman is an AWESOME tough guy. That speaks even more to his unbelievable acting skill when you think hes a 5'9" fat dude, but take the movie "The Quick and the Dead", he played that part perfectly. Same with "The Unforgiven".

One tough guy I liked that was a suprise is David Caruso. Hes a skinny Opie Taylor look alike but in NYPD Blue he was cool as ice. The best tough guy they had on there. Wasnt mean looking or prone to raging, but he could lay it down to you very simple and calm but you knew he meant business.

"The Quick and the Dead"? Are you serious? That was a comedy or something. In "The Unforgiven" his character wasn't much of a tough guy really, just someone thinking he is / wanting to be.

The best action hero is Russman. His finest role was in the movie "F**k Everybody." The craziest scene was when he pummeled a Bose salesman with a 16 lb. sledgehammer just for looking in his direction. It was real mean, man. And the sex scenes in it with the entire Laker Girls squad were incredible. Whoa -- what a stud.

It looks like Clint is going to get the title. When you think about the roles they played, Clint was tough as nails even in "Pink Cadillac". I like a lot of his movies, but Mel plays a great lunatic killer, when provoked. He is more of a nice guy that gets pushed too far. Clint would kick your **** for breathing too loud. ;)
I voted for Arnold, because he has one of the largest "body counts" in Hollywood. If he plays in a movie where he goes to the grocery store, he might kill 12 guys on the way there, and 12 more on the way back. :)
