Backlighting

Can anyone offer any suggestions on what they believe is the best form of backlighting for their current big screen TV? I'd like to know what simple, inexpensive tweak might be made to increase contrast and make those very dark grey bars appear darker than they really are because of decent (ambient) backlighting.

    Something like this http://www.cinemaquestinc.com/ideal_lume.htm?

I use one of thier standard back lights with my little 34in, not exactly a big screen but I love what it does with my set. I have tried using it without, and find watching movies fatiguing after around a hour or so, not so with the back light. Sudden changes from light to dark, like in horror movies, are much more watcheable and do not blind you with bright light, nor are you squinting to try and see the picture.

I use mine with all of the filters put on it, so that it is not so bright. Picture quality wise I don't know if it really does improve or not with it, but I think it looks better. A good investment for around $60 dollars.

Do you have the option to change the gray bars to black bars in the TV settings? Personally, I can't stand gray bars.

For a cheap backlighting experiment, grab the smallest strand of Christmas tree lights you have and plug them in behind the TV.

I'm anticipating dark grey bars for the new HD TV I'm buying, so I'm not sure how much "adjusting" can be done until I get it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!
