New ride...

Brandy's Volvo got hit in the **** end, and totalled. She's fine. At the same time, the A/C in my truck has gone out, so we have been driving around for 2 weeks in the Texas heat car shopping.

What a beating.

Found some good cars, some not so good cars. Nothing 'felt right'. That is until yesterday. Last day of the month. She couldn't be happier. I think she will forget about her 850GLT in no time flat.

Enter a Toyota Solara SLE V6. This car has everything, alloys, strong motor, sunroof, leather, traction control, etc etc. If you think it looks familar, it does. It's twin is the Lexus ES300. Drives like a dream. I've taken a few Camrys and Corollas around the block, and they never did much for me. Good all around car. On the sporty side (for her), but can still seat 4 adults VERY comfortably.

Just wanted to share, we got it for a song, and she is thrilled, to say the least.

The Solara is, by far, the best looking Toyota design in the last 3-5 years. Nice choice. I wish I could say the same for the rest of their line up. In my honest professional opinion, Toyotas styling team has dropped the ball on most of their "car" designs, except where the Solara is concerned. The greenhouse on the Avalon is just ackwardly tall, the Celica has just got too much boy-racer styling, and the Camry,Echo, Corolla, and Prism are just......pick your own decriptive(generic,blah,fugly,run-of-the-mill,etc,etc). There was a day when Toyotas were good-looking as well as well built. Now it's just the latter on the majority of their styling. Their truck and SUV models are pretty decent in the styling department, but again there are no real standouts.

RuSs, your(or your wife's ;) ) good taste made the right decision with Solara. Not only is it built very well (as are most Toyotas), but has style too boot :) . Enjoy it and maintain it well and it'll repay you with reliabilty and residual value better than 70% of the other marques out there.

BTW, very good decision purchasing pre-owned, as the first two years are the harshest on depreciation. Let the original owner take the beating :D .
    Nice color, resale-red ;) .

Location was a park nearby. I've got a decent lot (for this part of country), but nothing on the order what is in the pictures.

Chuck, you can never be too careful with this crowd. ;)

Russ those are great cars. You both will be very pleased. My grandmother traded in her for Lincoln Mark VIII for a 2005 fully loaded Avalon and loves it.

P.S. - after the transaction she dumped her Chrysler and Ford shares of stock as well. Something i've been telling her to do for 8 years now.

Congrats again on your new purchase.

Just the kind of feedback I was hoping for.

I'm just glad she has everything she wants. Comfort / Amenities, power and performance, good looks, reliability, and most importantly - it's a safe car.

I can see dumping the Ford stock and GM if she had any, but Chrysler is doing just fine the last I heard. Have I missed something???

my wife loves her 2003 corolla sport. we actually use it for long drives, a very surprisingly comfortable and well handling car. Toyota's are hard to beat in the reliablility dept.

My mom just got a 2005 Toyota Highlander V6 several weeks ago. While I was at the dealer, I was checking out the new Avalon.... 280 horsepower and gets 31 mpg on the freeway!! That's twice the horsepower of my 2001 Camry and better gas mileage!!

Great choice on the Solara, RuSs.

yeah it's been sitting at idle for the past 5-7 years- even after the 300m won Motor Trends' COTY- and even after Mercedes started pumping their technology into some Chrysler products. I do love the new 300 however- but the stock's just not a good investment, at least for now.
