Hello to everyone, it has been a while since I have posted. THis is my current set up (all Polk speakers):

RTI 70 (2 main front speakers)
CSI 40 (center channel)
FXI 30 (Dipole/Bipole surround, mounted on 36 inch Sanus speaker stands)
PSW 650 subwoofer
ONKYO TRX 600 (80 full bandwith watts x 6)
All monster cable connections
system is currently set up in a norma size bedroom

The problem that I see, is that the system does not play loud enough. I turn the volume to 60, in order to get decent volume (without distorsion, and I have the speaker calibration half way up). The center channel speaker sounds low. The sound is not very crisp or bright. The system is also lacking some midrange sound. I like my music loud, crisp, bright, and clear. For the money that was spent, I think that it should sound much better. I listen to music and watch movies about equally. My current setup just does not fill the room with sound and does not get me in the middle of the action when watching movies.

Do I have the wrong speakers or is this receiver to cheap and underpowered for the speakers? I am thinking about upgrading to a Denon 3805. Will I notice a big difference in sound quality and loudness, or do I need to get different speakers?

I've had basicly the same set-up in the past, very good speakers for HT and music...I would either pick up another AVR,or keep your Oink and add a good 5.1/7.1 amp...Around 125/200 wpc...

I have a Denon 3803 that drove my speakers to reference levels without any problems at all...

You need to set your speakers to "small" in the Onkyo setup menu and crossover at 80Hz.

You may need more power. What DB level do you listren at? Remember more power dosnt mean louder, it means better sound quality even at a lower vol all the way up. If your system is set to small & xover at 80 try calibrating the system at the db level you listen at. If that dosnt help you may want to try a receiver with more power.

I agree with more power and calibration. You need to get or borrow a SPL meter do do it right, and a calibration disc also. You can't do it by ear.

What is the size of the room?

you need some external amps.. at least for the fronts.. adding amps for your center and rears would be even better.

i had a similar set up... RT800i's, CS400i and FX300i, with a SVS sub. plenty loud.. all hooked up to external amps.. except the SVS of course. ;)

You Onk isn't powerful enough. i don't know if it has pre outs or not.. if not.. get a different receiver with pre outs and some amps.

What are your channel levels set to for your fronts? I think mine are around +5/6.

Not loud enough in a normal size bedroom????

With your setup you should sustain hearing damage if you turned your system up loud. It's gotta be a setup issue. Like amulford mentioned, get a SPL meter and calibrate your system.
