Need something for Movies and Music!

More than once have I heard the RTi series is not good for music. Anyone want to chime in on this or recommend something good for both movies and music?

I dotn have anyone near me with the RTi series but I heard the monitor series and I would agree with that statement. It was great for movies but for music it was lacking quite a bit.

I think when someone says that this or that speaker isn't good for music.. only home theater. I say hogwash.

Maybe that same person should look at their receiver or source instead.

I don't know many if any.. speakers that are made specifically for ht or music.. that's just silly.

I do have to say.. that for music, i think correct speaker placement is very important. And for home theater correct speaker level adjustment is vital. without those two for each intended purpose.. any speaker will not perform to it's maximum.

I've learned one thing here, don't listen to people on forums, get what you like and forget other opinions. If you like how the Rti line sounds, then go for it. Listen to them in your own home if possible and trust your own ears.

Zach, this is not what you want to hear, but....

You need to listen to a bunch of different speakers and then decide which ones sound better to YOU. It sounds like you are about to plop down some cash on a setup. Spend a little more and take a day trip to somewhere where you can listen to a few different models. It will be worth it in the long run.

Speaking of the long run, get what you want the first time out. If you need to save up some more cash before getting the system you want, then do it. It will be cheaper in the long run.

With regard to power:

I have R30's in the front and while they sound great for HT, they can become overwhelmed very fast with music. My HK is definately sending them enough power so it's not the receiver.......Now when I added my sub, things changed as it took the lower end off the 30's and sent the to the sub. Now the 30's can do what they were designed to do: reproduce mids and highs.

I do think that you can run the 30's w/out a sub for movies as they handle movies better, but for music they need to be paired with a sub....

I guess when people ask for speakers that are good for music, they are asking about speaker performance during music playback by themselves....I'm not sure. But when I say my 30's are just ok for music, I am referring to them by themselves.

if you are in the market for and have realistic expectations for a nice sounding, MID-FI system (like Me) then Rti's sound great for music. If you pair them up with QUALITY (not necessarily expensive) equipment then you should be pleased. If your budget allows you to spring for Tubes, Vifa-rings, $2,000 receiver or $70+ cables- then I don't know if you would be satisified or not. The bottom line is you could afford "MORE"- so why not get "MORE"?

I've listened to all three- with the same 2ch. CD's. Imho the "BETTER" monikor is THE bang for the buck.

I think the Monitor and RTi series sound great for 'music'. I've been very pleased with the Monitor 60's and 40's. Easy to drive, well balanced, smooth transition between drivers. They (Monitors) are a little 'hot' on the top end with sand amps, but on tubes they are nothing short of a joy to listen to.
