Yo Polksters: I just hooked up my Jolida 502B integrated tube amp (modified by Wally at Underwood Hi Fi) & man oh man does it sound SWEEEEEEET!!!! After all the great responses I got from you guys when I was considering going w/ a new 5 channel amp to mate w/ my NAD T773 receiver I found out IMO that any amp in the 2k-2.5k price range would not give me a great bang for my buck or really improve sonically over the NAD because it is really a killer receiver. So I rethunk the whole thing. Some of you guys told me to look into tubes for the mains, which I never realy considered. Boy am I glad I did. The sound is just so much more dynamic & clear, smooth & just flat out fun to listen to. The voices on CD's are as if they're performing right in your room. It has really taken my HT & 2 channel listening to a new level that I never experencied w/ SS amps. If any of you guys are considering a new amp do yourself a huge favor & check out some tube gear. Now I know what the SS in solid state really stands for (STERILE SOUND).
Happy listening,
Phil from Jersey

Your most welcome and I am now very jealous that you beat me to the tubes.;)

Damn, every time I read a post like this I wish I had some sort of tube setup. Tube pre-amp, or amp maybe. Hmm. Then beyond that, I can't decide if I got a tub pre-amp or somthing, should I utilize it on my Lsi home theater or NHT SB3 (2 chnl) bedroom setup. I do feel some upgraditis coming on ;)
Even though I don't need it. I've got plenty of junk as it is.

Congrats on finding how great technology was 60 years ago. SS was a horrible trick played on audio people. I wonder if 60 years from now people will be coveting CD's after years of compressed computer crap??

    Welcome to the bottleheads!

    Neat.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I'm glad to be on board. No more SS (STERILE SOUND) for me.

Congrats on the amp, I think a good tube integrated is a great way to go....

Lemme just play devil's advocate though, there is a LOT of good solid state gear out there, some of which, IMO is better than tubes. Depends on the gear and the application. In my cirucmstance, there are very very few tube amplifiers up to the task of driving the Carver's.

That's why there's vanilla & chocolate. Both are very good depending on your tastes. Can't go wrong w/ either one.
