Are there any HDCD titles that I would possibly like? I have a pretty diverse taste from...

BB King, To Dave Matthews, To Nightwish, To Korn...

Just give me a title that dosnt involve A lady with horns and a dress and I should be good.

Thanks...

And if there is like a source that has every HDCD made, it would be appreciated.

It's missing a few titles there.

No HDCD decoder here, but I got the HDCD remaster of VanHalen II the other day and it sounds great to me.

Mark Knopfler's "Sailing to Philadelphia" is HDCD, and it's a nice recording, if you can get into that sort of music.

I had another one that I noticed the HD logo on the other day, but I can't remember which one it was now...

{EDIT}.. and if I had read a little more closely I would have seen that marker already mentioned the VH..

I only have one, Megadeth's Cryptic Writings, and that wasn't on the list either. And to think that I bought my player based on that technology :( It does soung good though....

edit: I did a quick search and found that Microsoft has owned HDCD now since 2000.....

Sid, I checked very carefully and found that this one doesn't have a lady with horns, just an example in terrific sound of the great music that's waiting for you out there. If you're interested, to get over the $20 for free shipping, add this great version of The Planets.

A HDCD decoder is build into Window Media Player V.9 and up. When a HDCD-encoded CD is played back using WMP, the HDCD will "light up" in WMP V.9. For WMP V.10, when a HDCD-encoded CD is being played, you will need to hit "Pause", then "Play" again, before the HDCD logo shows up.

wtf? Since when have you been listening to Nightwish, Sid? Definitely one of the greatest band and the production on their latest release, "Once", is top notch.

I saw them live back in Dec.

    Just recently...

Once and Over The Hill & Far Away are killer. Century Child isnt quite my favorite. Need to get more Nightwish. :p

Planet Hell and Creek Mary's Blood are masterpieces. IMO

Thanks for all the links and suggestions. I am definetely looking forward to hearing HDCD in some form!

"Over the Hills and Far Away" is an excellent cover song, I have the Over the Hills mini album.

Don't know what you'll think of the albums prior to "Century Child" but IMO, Century Child is superior to all the other prior releases and "Once" is superior to Century Child. "Ghost Love Score" is a f*cking masterpiece. Definitely my fav song on Once. If you get the chance, check out Tarja Turunen's solo project. www.tarjaturunen.com The full album is not out yet but I picked up her single, "One Angel's Dream". Classical type singing. Very talented vocalist.

I forgot about the HDCD question. I have quite a few of them and can't say it's better than normal redbook. My NAD decodes HDCD and IMO, great production on non HDCD can sound just as good. Here's a good source for HDCD discs... www.referencerecordings.com

I agree, I like Over The Hills & Far Away (the CD) until it gets to the Live parts, I like the first 5 tracks or so.

But the tracks OTH&FA and 10th Man Down are pretty awesome.

Ghost Love Score (listening to it right now) is pretty sweet, and I agree - it is a masterpiece. They have alot of songs that are like this. Great stuff.

I will try to check out that other artist, thanks for the recomendation!

As for HDCD, I just want to give it a shot, from what I read, the HDCD decoder chip also makes regular redbook CDs sound better as well. So that makes sense.

Edit: The song Beauty And The Beast is a beautiful song as well.

The link I gave you was for Tarja Turunen, not a different artist. She's the vocalist from Nightwish. Her solo work is classical not power metal like NW.

For your next NW album, check out "Oceanborn". Probably their fastest material and is what I would consider real power metal. Beauty and the Beast is from their first release, "Angels Fall First".

Another great band is Kamelot. www.kamelot.com Exactly like NW with a male vocalist.
