Goldring 1042 phono cartridge for sale. I estimate about 250 hours of use. It should have about 1350 hours left on it. This cartridge has a very flat frequency range and is considered an extremely good cartridge for its price range.

This cartridge sells for $335 new on the internet. I have the plasic enclosure it came in, box and paperwork which I will include. I am upgrading to a much better cartridge. $$$$:D

Here is a reference to it: http://www.needledoctor.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.1058/it.A/id.241/.f

$150 shipped!

EDIT: Last chance offering. PRICE HAS BEEN SLASHED TO $100 SHIPPED!

Yep. Someone suggested I ran across a few records which just happened to have the hole off centered. They were correct. Saved me about $350 for a new bearing!

By the way, this is what I'm replacing the Goldring with. :D

It is a little too much cartridge for my phono preamp but in the future I'll upgrade.

Nice. If it's performance matches more expensive carts, why spend the other 3K.

The 1040 is considered better than many in its own price range, not in a different class. Is it as good as any of the $750 dollar ones, maybe. At least you could talk yourself into it. Lets face it, a $50, $150, $350, $750, $1500, $3000, $7000 and $12000 cartridge will all sound different. It starts getting "magical" beyond the $1K mark as far as I can tell.

I heard a Benz Micro at a fellow audiophiles home and it blew me away. I still remember the sound. It was magical. By magical I mean I could almost see the sounds dancing around in front of me. It was different for sure. Almost animated. I figure next year I will no longer remember the cash outlay but will still have the sound, hopefully. Besides, I got a good deal. :)

Of course next year sometime I will have to upgrade the preamp to something more reasonable to enjoy the information extracted by the cartridge.

If the 604 is anything like my 704 there is almost nothing in the table itself that could be casuing a faint channel. It is pretty much a striaght shot wire from the cart to the rca plugs. There is one disconnect in between, but it would not cause a faint channel. It would either be working, or not working. One thing you can try is to clean the contact points where the cart holder comes into contact with the head. I used a pen applicator of de-oxit on mine. Fixed my problem right away. Mine was intermentent sound coming from the channels. The other thing to check is the cart itself. Try a different cart. I bet it is either the cart or dirty contacts.

    Hope that helps,
    Todd

Nope, I got a Pioneer PL-L800 from dorokusai probably 4 or 5 months ago. Do a search in the flea market.
