LSIFX dilemma

Okay...I finally decided on LCI80is for my back surrounds (in ceiling speakers)....Now I need to decide whether or not I can place my LSIFXs (side surrounds) up high at a 45 degree angle pointing at the sweet spot (where my new ceiling will meet the walls at about an 8 foot height). I don't want to do the in wall Polk surrounds as I do not feel they will sound as good as the LSIFXs. Also, one wall is solid concrete block.

Since my rear surrounds will be in the ceiling....this should work , right? I mean that's the way movie theaters do it. I can't put them lower because my room is so narrow that anyone that walks by them is in danger of bumping them off the walls --AND I have a window in the way on the left. Any input would be very welcome. TIA

Dipoles are so diffuse by design that you don't really need to angle them down. Place them high enough to avoid people, and you should be good.

Hmmmm..really? Not even little angle? It just seems like all that sound will be floating up there in the ceiling and I will be like, "Hey! I'm down here!". :p

I've used dipoles as "sides" for the last couple HT setups, and if you actually are placing them with the tops at the 8 foot ceiling, I would angle them down. This will help to minimize the reflection from the ceiling too. Placement high on the wall is the best for side mounted dipoles since this allows the sound to get to all people in the room without going through those sitting next to us. Anything above ear level is good.

When you hear dipoles in use you really can't place where they are at, since they are made to sound this way, and placement isn't as critical as a single plane (standard) speaker requires.

How far are your rears going to be from your seats? Do those models have adjustable tweeter mounts?

Thanks Dennis. The rear speakers will be about 4 to 5 feet back in the ceiling (about 8 ft). The tweeters can be aimed . The room is only 12 feet wide so ...at about 8 feet high, how much would you say to angle the Fx's?

30 to 45 degrees should be okay.

Try placing them slightly behind your primary seating if you can. I have had mine in front, beside and behind my first seats and prefer them slightly behind the seats. It just seems to work best with the fronts this way. Putting them in front of the seating was the worst, as surround effects didn't pan from front to back properly. Too much frontal weight.

They are going to be directly to the sides. I may be able to push the sofa farther forward to achieve the same thing...A foot or so mebbe. This room is very limiting....but I will make it work! As God as my witness...ya da ya da ya da and so forth.
