Heads down bums up????

Hey i just sold my two Clarion 12's and .4 channel amp and wondering about mounting two 10's instead on custom boot walls and was wondering how well they would sound mounted face down and bum up? they are going in the back of my 91 Nissan 'Nismo' Pulsar with perspex boot and parcel rack.

Mounting the subs inverted doesnt really change the SQ of the sub, it just makes it look different.

Personally I think inverted subs look kinda stupid. Like you couldnt figure out which end was which. For that youd want to go with Audiobahn.

Unless they have a seriouse motor and magnet(s) to show off instead of all that chrome .


One thing though, would the sub be able to stay cooler due to the air outside of the box being cooler? This is assuming the enclosure is sealed.

I guess its possible with the motor and voice coil sticking out in the air they could stay cooler but as long as you keep the sub within its power handling limits that shouldnt be an issue anyway.

I never tried it because I need all of the trunk space I can get, and it seems that the whole rear of the speaker sticking out thing would eat up more room. We really pack the trunk up with my kids' stuff when we go to the beach or the park.

I just remembered that when I installed my Kenwood CD changer years ago, the instructions stated not to mount it with the door facing down . I was cracking up when I read that. I had to go inside and show my wife, basically how dumb Kenwood thinks/knows some people to be :eek: .

i like the custom install idea, and agree with the others that it won't change your sq. mounting them with the magnet sticking out of the box allows you to build a smaller box and thus keep it close to the wall, but you do still have to deal with the magnet sticking out.

and a true story about user manuals - this guy bought himself a new TOTL RV, read the manual cover-to-cover, took it out for a spin, began merging onto a highway, set the cruise control - and went into the back to lay down! naturally, the thing drove off the road, so he sued the RV company, claiming that he thought the cruise control would drive for him... and surprise, surprise, he WON, to the tune of several million dollars!

needless to say, their manual now makes it very clear that cruise control does NOT drive for you...
