Hi,

I wonder whether this is worth to fix:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5790302983&category=14993&rd=1
if the final bid is < $50?

Thanks,

    PASS....if it isn't clear, worthless.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

On the other hand, Magnepan might take pity on your foolishness and fix it for you at a reasonable price, or not!

The not part is more likely, shipping to MN and back would be at least $150 before repairs were made. Then they require you to ship in the original boxes (anoth $75 or so) so you're out $225 without parts or labor... If you had other maggies in house, I would buy this on the cheap to experiment on and to test repairs ONLY. I would never plan on bringing them all the way back to life.

Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

I am convinced that it not worth to repair. Second thought, the tweeter looks like a ribbon. If the ribbon is in good shape, can it be used for the Carver? If so, maybe it is worth $20?? Rebuilding a ribbon is about $350!!

Magnepan won't repair anything that old. Even if they have repair kits available (doubtful), the Tympani series are not as user friendly for the DIYer as the MG series.

It's sad to see those in such a state. The Tympanis were the first Maggies I ever heard. The jazz combo I played with in the early 70s used them for sound reinforcement in small venues. I bought my MG-Is (first run) direct from Frank after falling in love with the Tympani sound.

Those are, as others have stated, vintage junk. Too bad.
