Cable TV freq.

I have noticed (since my receiver has a fixed cut off of 90hz) there is not much TV freq below that. I am not talking about HDtv just reg TV even digital cable. Does anyone know what the range is for TV?
I noticed this cause my sub has a blue light which lights up when the sub kicks in and it doesn't kick in often with TV.

Man, I had to read that like three times and then think for a couple minutes before I understood what you're asking:D

I get plenty of material (both in HDTV and SDTV) well below 90hz. Perfect example is the beginning of Carnivale, there is some pretty low stuff in there. I don't know exactly how low it is, but it's way below 80hz. I get stuff all the time that uses my sub (crossed at 80hz, so I know it's below that).

Having said that, it will depend on what you watch. If you watch the news all the time, then I doubt you're going to get alot of material below 90hz. But I watch shows like CSI, 24, House, stuff like that and my sub kicks in fairly frequently, though nothing really compared to watching a movie...

Sorry if it was confusing, my back pain killers were kicking in about that time. Yes I noticed on 24 there was lots. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the average was for TV channels to send out. What is the lowest you have found?

I dunno about typical, but the was this Family Guy episode where stewie puts a subwoofer on his tricycle... it was low- maybe 40's-50's.

i dont beleive they pay any special attention to what frequencies they are going to use for a tv show, they just record it like everything else. But if you think about it..... most things you are going to watch on tv should not have those very low frequencies anywa... News, talk shows, sitcoms, etcetc... for the most part they are all dialoge with very minimal sound effects. That is why your sub is not kickin in most of the time for tv. Not because cable channles dont carry those signals but that most of the shows on those cable channels dont contain anything that would warrant those signals.

I'm not aware of any bandwidth restriction with TV, so I'd say the average range is completely dependent on the source. That would be like asking what the average range for radio is. I'm sure there is a practical limit for TV and radio, but I imagine those are close to the 20-20,000 limits your receiver likely has anyway, maybe a bit less on the higher end.

As for the lowest I've seen, I've never really measured it. But I know I've heard stuff in the 30hz range bunches.

Maybe TV programming is recorded or output in a limited range since most TV speakers can't product much, but I doubt even this happen much today given advances in tech.

Television audio is in the FM band; I would imagine 30-15kHz.
