    Remove Baffle.

    http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12227&highlight=removing+rti+tweeter

Put tweeter face down in your palm...

Take other hand and twist magnet off (probally counter clockwise)...

Turn the tweeter back over and remove the faceplate.

Take hand, and lightly press the dome back out.

according to my conversation with Ken, thats a good way to eff up the tweeter. I got a replacement baffel, when trying to swap the drivers, I did what Sid said, twisted the magnet off, a no no according to Ken. I ask can I just put it back on, Ken said we have a machine that puts those together, I don't see how you could do it correctly. I bought a new tweeter.

I've done it with several of the tweeters, as have a few here I believe. Never had a problem...

    No,

The RT35i has a smaller cab, different crossover, different midbass.

Its just different. The Silk isnt a match, and shouldnt be passed off as one.

The replacement tweeter Polk has for the RTxxi series tri-lams are just fine. I have them in my RT55is and actually like them. No substantive difference. I even compared them to my RT25is to see if it was noticable...not really.

I hate everytime i come to a thread that reminds me the trilams arn't made anymore. I dont know why they discontinued them

I just know the trilams in my 55i's are gonna just die for somereason and i am going to be sol. I really do not like the silk ones in the new rti series. They seem a little harsh to my ears, but they may be just becasue i am so used to the more laid back trilam that i have been listining to for so long now.

What has other peoples expericene been with the lifespan of there trilams..... do i have anything to worry about or am i just being paranoid?

If anything the tri-lam replacements are slightly LESS bright. I don't know if they are the same tweeters as in the RTi series or not. Just my experience.

The RTxxxi replacement is the tweeter from the RTi38, RTi70 - etc.

It was the last series to use a baffle with the "snap." The new series uses screws - unlike the last one.

I didn't like that tweeter at all. I thought the Tri-Lam was better. Just a IMO - it isnt the same tweeter at all. They need to bring back the RT5 tweeter :p

I didnt like the replacement tweeters when I had to swap them out in my 55's & 400i. Althouth I was without my speakers for around 3 weeks so my auditory memory was probably off but some sounds in movies I always watched just didnt sound the same. Or it was probably just in my head, but after a while I just never felt right about them when I would listen to them so I ended up selling them. I think having those tweeters in there hurts the resale value also since most people will want to buy the originals.

Back to popping them back out- try a vacuum cleaner. I actually got this to work without destroying the dome: don't take it apart, just use the crevice tool to suction down on it and pull it out.

You cant use RT15is. They use screws. The RT35i was the first speaker in that line to use the baffles. You would need a pair of towers, RT55i or the CS400i.

Also note that a tri-lam does NOT fit in the RTi38 series. The silk is not as deep as the tri-lam. Also, upon opening them both up, the Tri-Lam is built ALOT better. Much much better construction.

As for my advice. I take everything apart. Especially if it dosnt even require manual labor. Thats just calling to be taken apart. I'm sure my fetish for taking everything apart scares some - but I think its fun! I know my mains like the back of my hand. I even built a pair myself. I couldnt imagine having it any other way!

As long as you dont take things out of the tweeter (it has a rubber ring) or remove the voice coil. The thing just slides in and out - it shouldnt matter. It comes apart and goes back together with ease.
