Such as placement and calibration. I moved my surrounds to a proper position from their original spot (see my showcase here ) to a wall placement, and I turned down my sub, it was rather bloated, upgraded the receiver and then used the simple EZset that comes with the HK AV235.
Wow! What a difference, I was quite pleased with what I have now, (I'm still getting my new SVS on Friday though )
Movie come out great, the room sounds bigger!
The moral of the story: 15 minutes or so of calibration will carry you a loooong way.

the new h/k receiver's ez set is surprisingly accurate given what it is. I like it too. Not to mention the actual receiver.

EZ set is a proprietary calibration system made by HK. It started with a microphone within the remote (still available/ used on lower models) and has now evolved into a stand alone mic that plugs into the reciever (used on higher models).Receiver: harmankardon AVR235

I finally settled on the H/K AVR 635 over the Denon 3805 got it at a very low price from a friend and I was impressed with the EzSet/EQ but it was a little tedious. When I finally got serious about calibration and took out my testing/calibration CDs I was surprised at how accurate the EzSet was; I only had to make minor adjustments (thought it may have been largely due to my room already being acoustically treated).
There was one (hidden) downside to this receiver which Im not sure is present in the Denon. H/K touts and Amp (electric) driven amps and it showed in my electric bill it went up $80! Now I only turn it on when watching digital surround sound movies and DVDs. Anyone planning on getting the 635 receiver be aware that it draws over 500 watts of power at moderate volumes and upwards of 1000w at max volume! If my receiver was converted to light bulbs it would light my entire house!
I think the 235 draws an average of 200-300w at moderate volumes so watch the electric bill -
WOW!!! i never thought that a single component would make that much of a difference on an electric bill. But then again i do not have to pay an electric bill so what the hell do i know

With everything else equal/same (AirCond use, etc) your new HK raised your bill $80/mnth?

$80??? How much is power where you live? 1000 watts*720 hours in a month/1000*$.08 (typical cost per kilowatt hour) still only gives $57.60.
I kinda doubt you had that amp going full out 24/7 for a month.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Doh! I spoke to my wife yesterday and she happened to mention that her sister has been bringing her clothes to dry at our house for a few weeks while I was at work grrrrrrr  . I did the math and it looks like the AVR only lifted my bill around $50. My electric rate is a whopping .129 in this area I think its the second highest in the state. -
