Humming sound...Not sure what could be causing it!

All of a sudden my RTi38s hum like crazy. What should I look for as a cause? I'm running a Rotel RSP-980 pre and a Carver AV505 amp. I am not sure what has changed to create this hum, but as far as I know the only thing that is different is we have a digital cable box underneat the rotel.

You really think so? If I unplug it should the noise go away then? I'll have to check and see

Disconnect the damn thing entirely. See if it doesn't go away.

I had a hum and it was my TV not my cable box. Any time (through video connection or audio connection) the TV was in some way shape or form connected to my carver amp, i get a hum from my speakers. I think I need a power conditioner :(

It never happened with my marantz receiver though, so I don't really know what it is. Maybe the carver amp or AMC pre is just more sensitive to **** power.

Let me know if you ever solve this, because maybe we have the same problem.

Try disconnecting the cable line to the cable box. I never had a ground loop hum from my cable line until Insight installed my digital HD cable box. I just ran my cable line through a Tripp Lite power strip that has the cable surge protection. Problem solved.

Ok, I foudn that the hum was caused by the cable coming out of the cable box going to the tv. If I disconnect the cable coming out of the cable box the humming goes away. If I even touch the cable back there the humming starts up again.

Will a surge protector that has the cable thing on it work?

Buy the Mondial Magic ($99) connect it outside to your incoming main cable wire, and your whole house will be hum free on the coax connections. That's what I do.

What do you do with the ground outlet on that Mondial Magic? What do you hook up to it and where do you put it?

The Modial Magic IS a ground loop isolator---a VERY good one.

I don't use the grnd connection on mine, I just hook the main cable from the street to input, and a short RG-6 from output to the house splitter...

I can turn my system all the way up----no hum, no noise. This item is a "MUST HAVE" for anyone interfacing their audio system with their video. To me, its another needed component. I've lived in 4 different houses over the last 5 years, and all of them had hum on the cable.

You only have to hook up the ground strap if you want it to function as a surge suppressor.

Any thoughts on if it isn't a ground loop problem?

All the tv's in the house when they are on(incl mine plugged into the line-r), subwoofer aslo plugged into the line-r (always on), and the internet router plugged into wall jack buzz/hum all the time.

This is the voltage line regulator I am using.

Tried disconecting the coax cable line from the source and the devices are still buzzing.
