and i'm one of the few tuners you'll find over here, though i'm about stealth performance over glitz.

and speaking of tuning, my dad (yeah, my dad, how weird is that) is looking to build an offroad machine from scratch (i mean really from scratch, get a used truck, rip it down, and start welding the roll cage in, then go from there)... you guys know of a good frame to work with? he was looking at a jeep frame of some sort, but options are good...

p.s. sorry for momentarily hijacking your thread :

okay, i have to quiz you now:

you mean jeep CJ body? why no unibody? is that just for jeeps, or in general? any other frames to be looking at?

I believe they are AKA hydraulics. They lift and lower the car at each corner for show...

    "unibody" means there's no frame.

for example, your focus is "unibody" - there are "frame rails" but they're simply flimsy metal c channels welded to the bottom of the floor pan.

if you want a TRUE framed vehicle for offroading, you have to look at AMERICAN pickup trucks, large SUV's (explorer, durango, etc), or old SUVs (old bronco, ramcharger, blazer -- like 1980's man).

my personal suggestion would be a Chevy CK frame or a Dodge Ram D-series frame. why? both have readily available parts as the models transcended many many years... 70's through early 90's... chevy engines are easier to build than mopars, but a 318 will never let you down... it's a mean lil ****, not real powerful (can be built powerful, but stock is not), but it'll just keep pushing you along long after it's "bit the bullet". they tend not to die until they've gotten you home.

both have big fat C channel frames and lots of open space to work in.

for offroading i'd suggest a "short bed", "standard cab" 1500 or 2500 series pickup with 4 wheel drive.

the dodge is espeically awesome up to about 1992 because the 4x4's had leaf springs up front - yup, leaf springs. and they be MEAN.

remember, if you do a lift kit on a truck or suv - and you raise the suspension more than 1.5 inches on a vehicle that probably has a FACTORY 3 inch lift, you're going to need to have a 2 piece driveshaft made with a support and bearing in the middle - cost you less than 200 bucks, and will keep you going on the proverbial trail of life.

if you perchance do do the dodge -- FIND OUT WHY I HAVE NO F********************* GODDA********* oil pressure!
