Heard a new one today about Bose

According to my local NHTdealer, Bose actually puts small light bulbs in their little Acoustimass satellites to help with power handling abiility! And once the bulb burns out, you can't get in there to change it.

Anyone else ever heard this one?

    supposedly there's a light bulb in the bass module that burns off excess power put out by the receiver - so that you don't blow the satellite.

    I don't know if it's true or not, but if it's in there, I'm sure you can get to a replace it if necessary...

    Maybe it was the bass module and I misunderstood him. I thought he meant in the cubes themselves, but he did say you couldn't replace the bulbs though. Don't know if he knew what he was talking about or not though.

    supposedly it's the bass module, but there have to be a thousand better ways to deal with the extra power put out by a receiver...

    Leave it to Bose to come up with something stupid like this...

    Again, I don't even know if it's true or not - I've seen it mentioned on boards like this online...

    Agreed. If they put half as much into actual R&D as they do into marketing, they might would actually be a force to be reckoned with from a performance standpoint.

    To come up with something like this only proves that they do have creative engineers when they want (or have) to be.

    I've seen this in larger PA speakers... kinda like a "clipping light" of sorts. I was sitting behind a PA speaker at some horrid event, and the sound people had no idea what they were doing. The sound was loud and distorted (we did actually end up leaving about 15 mins into it), and on several occasions I could see a light through some of the cracks around the back of the speaker...

    wouldn't fuses cost more? That would cut into Bose's 1000% profit margin.

    They actually pour a ton of money into RnD and have some very steep requirements for anyone even thinking about applying. Unfortunately, they use all that brain power to figure out how to make something extremely cheaply and make lots of money off of it.

    My friend bought some cheap floorstanding speakers at BB (I think) and they have a light in them that you can see through the port. It started to flash with heavy bass. He acted like all speakers had this. Odd

    Boston Acoustics old Pro series car components used to use a fuse in the x-overs to help control power going to the tweeter. It was user replaceable and easy to pop.

    Haven't heard this from bose. I'll see what I can dig up...aka break open to see. :D

    I own Bose...Bose owes me for all the headaches they've caused.

    As for this whole light bulb thing.. lol... that sounds so retarded... I know where to go to find a flashlight.
