I just purchased a polk center channel and hooked it up, and now my fronts (rt600i's) are playing very soft. I went to stereo mode on my Onkyo receiver and it still played them very soft, like I had to turn the volume way up. Anyone know what's up and what I can do to get the speakers playing the way I want them to play

Sounds to me like you have poor connections to me......

I've never had an Onkyo, but did you change the LFE settings? Maybe by mistake when you turned the center channel on!

If it's the CS400i, than it's not surprising if your mains are sounding a little lost in the shuffle. If it's the 245i or 175i, then I think something is wrong. I wouldn't imagine that it's your main's connection, I mean, you didn't change them while setting up your center, right? You're going to have to move your mains a little closer to you, or use the distance from listener settings on your receiver to tell it the mains are farther away, or that your center is closer. Just a couple of suggestions. The 245i would be your best fit, I believe, the 400i even roughs up my 800i's a little bit. It's a real self-centered ****.

OK, thanks for the replies guys, but I know what it is now. On my receiver you can change the level of output for each channel, and my main speakers were at -12, and all other speakers were at +12. I knew that, and I had my front speakers up at +12, but now every time I turn on the receiver it puts it at that setting. I am going to read the manual to figure out it I can set it so all speakers are at +12 when I turn the receiver on. I have the CS245i. I also have another question about different surround formats. My receiver is the Onkyo 484-txds, and it has about 5 or 6 DSP modes. It has Dolby Digital and DTS decoders built in, but I am not sure how to use them. When I go through the different DSP modes, dolby pro-logic comes up, but not dolby digital or dts. Do I select them modes in the DVD or what? For now, I play my dvd's through a PS2, but I will be getting something nicer shortly.

I imagine that you have an "auto" setting where your receiver automatically senses the type of format being fed to it. I find that those DSP modes are unlistenable.
