Svs PC Plus Placement

I am getting an SVS sub as a second sub in my system in conjunction with my Outlaw Audio LFM 1. The reason I chose an SVS rather than another Outlaw is that I simply do not have the space to put the large Outlaw box in the front corner where it sounds best in my new home.(New pics to come) The SVS will fit just right catty corner behind my LF Lsi 15. Will it be ok if it is only a couple of inches away from the corner walls?

It will be pretty snug but right now the LFM is out in front of the whole entertainment center and just is a behemoth that I can not tuck into the corner. I am thinking if placing it behind the couch. TIA.

I bought my SVS 20-39 PCi for exactly the same space and placement issues you're up against. IMO, it has great synergy with the rest of the system (Klipsch RF-3 series). The PC down-firing series was undoubtedly designed for corner placement.

After running it in the mix for awhile (on a carpeted concrete floor) I experimented with placing it on a granite slab that Doro was kind enough to give me. That seemed to "tighten" the output a bit and it remains that way today.

Changing the placement of the Outlaw behind the couch as you mentioned may be the answer to resolving all of your bass needs.

Have to agree w/ Early. If your moving the sub to right behind the couch, I think you might find you don't need the SVS after all. By putting it within close proximity, you get more tactile response.

I did the old tried and true subwoofer check to see where the bass is best in my setting and behind the couch was not so good. Up front in a corner was best. I am not even sure a second sub would be so great there. I have another 25 feet or so of family room still behind the couch. Maybe with the SVS up front the bass of a sub behind the couch would change?

Damn, wingnut, how big is your room? Is the room on a slab? How far away is the listening position from the sub currently? Any high/vaulted ceilings? What kind of front speakers do you have? Are they set to "large" or "small?" Any other issues besides space constraints (i.e., WAF, budget, etc.)

Just trying to determine whether or not you've got enough sub for your room size and whether a second sub will make enough of a difference to justify the cost.

The entire room is 12' by 42' and about 9 to 10 ' in height. The floor is concrete slab with tile. None of my gear has changed yet I have LSI 15 fronts, LSI9 as a center, LSIFXs are on the way, and RTI 100s will now be my two back channels.

The OutlawLFM now is only about 13 feet from my listening position. I have my speakers set to SMALL with a crossover at 80. My Sherwood P-965 only allows one crossover setting for all speakers at the moment( until they update).

Wow. You have a HUGE, HUGE room for that Outlaw to pressurize. Not even sure if two subs are gonna do the trick. Hell, you need a gigantic sub in every corner and two dangling from the ceiling!!!:p

Have you tried setting your Lsi15's to "Large?" Some people prefer it that way. It certainly did with my previous speakers.
I dunno, it might help a little.

Actually the Outlaw in the front shakes the whole house. It is an excellent sub. I just can't fit it right where I want it. I will try a Large setting and see. I kinda like the small though so my amp does not have to work so much with those 4 ohm speakers. It gets pretty hot as it is.

You have alot of space. I can see where you want to corner load the sub. Maybe a pair of CS Ultra's???;)

Well, like I said, the LFM fills it pretty well. It is really just an aesthetic space issue for me. It i sjust way too crowded up there. Anyone already have the SVS? How do you like it?

I'm about to own an SVS, don't quite have it yet... But I went down to the factory, and I saw these subs do amazing things...

They have a PB12-ISD that they use for listening to music, and even though this thing is in a humongous room (assembly room, high ceilings, lotsa floor space, the guys say they still get a rumble on the other side of the floor. I hadn't really heard it for myself, but it's something to consider I suppose.

BTW, they had sold out their last remaining B12-Plus/4 that day, I guess that option isn't open anymore...

I had my SVS running in a 25x35x12 foot room (this is a 580 dollar sub)... the bass was clean and forcefull... things all the way across the room was shaking.

It had no headroom though.

Gotta consider headroom because without it, you'll need to turn the sub's volume up to accommodate for the size of the room. If so, it can get boomy real quickly. Yeah, stuff is shaking on the other side of the room and it's loud, but it may not sound good. That's why sub manufacturers make recomendations on what size sub you need based principally on the size of your room. A bigger room requires a bigger sub.

I'd suggest that you talk to Tom at SVS or Dr. Hsu and send them a schematic of your room so they can recommend an appropriate sub and placement options. I realize this doesn't directly address your issue of fit into your existing setup, but it doesn't matter if the SQ ain't there.

Can you put an Infinite Baffle subwoofer in your room?

four to eight of these drivers would crush any box sub and would give you more than enough headroom for a lot less money.

I am not sure where I could do an IB sub. I could look into it though. I only had the gain on my Outlaw at about 12 O'Clock for it to shake up the room and actually had to back down on the volume a bit so I think that is fine. It is a killer sub. I just wish it were shaped like the SSV PC+.

I just received the SVS today and WOW!. What a sub. I can't seem to find a good place for the Outlaw though to make the two sound as good together as one does by itself. I tried them both up front and they still sound better by themselves than together. I tried behind the couch, to the side of the couch. No luck. Any suggestions? Also, what are you guys using to tame rattles? TIA
