The setup Onkyo 898 as pre/pro driving 2 Halo A23 bridged mono amps feeding RT150i's front.

Question 1,

Can these amps be stacked one on top of the other?

Question 2,

Using the Onk as the pre/pre for both 2ch and HT is it best to balance the front amps (A23) set as 0 in level calibration on AVR. This causing the setup to be the following...

Left 0
Center +5
Right 0
Surround Right +8
Surround left +2

This seems to work best in 2 ch being this level setup also changes direct / pure audio modes.

Vs.

Left -8
Center -3
Right -8
Surround Right 0
Surround Left -6

Subwoofer setup didn't change either way in AVR set as -5 changed on sub volume control.

Guess it depends on the amount of heat being generated and the manufacturers recommendations. Personally I would keep them seperated.

    Thanks Frank,

    Question about Parasound below.

    Quote from Parasound.

Do not stack the A23 with other components inside a cabinet unless you use a fan to circulate and exhaust the warm air that builds up between them.

Also there's this you can rack them optional brackets and taking the feet off so that there is 1 3/4" space. So why no fan needed in a rack?

I'd have to guess that most cabinets include a door up front and a rear wall, thus traping a great deal of heat. A rack on the other hand is generally open on all sides and that allows for greater heat dissipation.

    Frank,

Ok I never considered that a rack is open at rear also in front vs. a cabinet.

    Thanks
