45-55 degrees is where I prefer my beer. The colder a beer is, the less flavor it has. But then again, try drinking one of the beer-flavored water's out there (any bud product, miller, coors, etc...) at a warm temperature and I think anyone would throw up. I like my pale ales a little colder but for barleywines, stouts, porters, and heavy ales, they've got to be fairly warm. When I went to London a few months ago, I was in heaven with all of the room-temp hand-pulled (cask) ales and stouts. Cask beer is my favorite and is always the first beer I order when I go to my local microbrewery (Goose Island ).

    landry_p2000,

Go to the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium off of Beale Street and start trying different styles. I recommend Belhaven for one. Let me know what you think of the different beers available there if you go.

We have a micro brewery in our area called Victory. They make a beer called Golden Monkey. I don't even know what type of beer you would call it. It has a light golden color to it with a heavy taste. It is 9% alc.
I have never tasted anything like it but it's out of this world!!
Just be careful, they pack a punch.

The Golden Monkey is a Belgian-style ale. I've tried their HopDevil Ale which is like an IPA. Good stuff for an East Coast microbrewery.

Oh yes oh yes, Victory brewing. My brother-in-law usually has a keg of Victory on tap at his house when I visit. Excellent stuff. Do they still brew "HopDevil"? That was the hoppiest beer I have ever ingested.

And greg, my everyday beer is Yeungling lager...and I like the "Lord Chesterfield Ale" too, although to me it doesn't taste like an ale...tastes like a German Lager (ala Becks or Spaten).

Ron, I really like Pyramid's Heffe but locally can only find it on tap. I haven't run across a skunky batch of the bottled Pyramid I've bought, at least not yet. I did run across a wicked skunky sixer of Beck's last weekend. Man...that produced some serious results the morning after.

I had some of that Yeungling on a trip to Philly. That style is a little light for my tastes but not bad tasting beer at all.

Becks is not that great of a German beer, IMO. Just happens to be heavily exported. Actually most towns over there have their own local breweries and brands.
