Hello people. Anybody here ever heard the Freedom F-2 bookshelf speaker made by Tyler Acoustics???? It uses a 7'Seas Aluminium cone mid and a Vifa Ring dome tweeter. They cost $775 a pair and use 1" thick real wood cabinets. I just have been curious how the F-2's would sound compared to the Polk Lsi9's or even the 7's??? Anbody here ever compared the two speakers as in an A/B comparison. By all counts the F-2's look like a really good deal and are less expensve than the Lsi9's and 7's. I would like an unbiased opinion. Care to chime in??? Speak up if you have heard both the F-2's and the Lsi9's/7's.

Well, not quite. They are "1" thick heavy duty, hand built, hand veneered" which means 1" thick MDF with a 1/64" to 1/32" thick layer of wood veneer on top. All speakers are hand assembled and of course, a person has to apply the veneer. No machine that I'm aware of can do that.

Well, acutally there F-2's do come in a standard choice of Oak, Golden Oak, Red Oak, Black Oak, Walnut, Ribbon Mahogany, and Cherry. The choice is up to the owner. They also offer other finishes at an additional cost. Personally, I like the Ribbon Mahogany and the Golden Oak. The standard finishes are included in the $775 price. Given the Seas drivers, Vifa ring tweeter , and the more expensive cross over components used, I would say these are a steal for that kind of price. I will be demoing them this week after the holiday because Tyler Acoustics is only 30 miles from my home. Wish I could also demo the Lsi9's and the 7's as well. But nobody close to me carries them. One dealer has the Rti series and CC of course carries the monitor series and such.

    Phil,

It's still veneer covered MDF. Making speakers out of solid wood is acoustically a bad idea as each piece of wood will have a different density and is much less stable than MDF.

Let us know how they sound.

Yeah F1 I fully understand the wood veneer thing. MDF is very good to use as long as it is at least IMHO 5/8" and up to say no more than 1". Guys, I will be more than happy to share my listening experiences with you but do keep in mind that I have NEVER heard the Lsi9's or the 7's. I can compare to the Rti6 and I know the Paradigm speakers very well. I will compare the Tyler F-2's to the Paradigm Studio 20's. Wish I could actually do an A/B but that will not be possible. Have a great 4th people.

In my quest for new speakers I have taken the time to make a demo CD. I also take along a small notebook to jot down how certain passages are handled.

I have seen the Tyler Ad for the Freedoms on Audiogon, they do have my curiousity. I am also curious as to the Role Audio Discovery model. Design is similar to the LSi9's.

    Have fun auditioning.
