Corner Room Layouts are a total ****!
I need some advice regarding an EX setup for a CORNER ROOM LAYOUT:
RTI-4
CSI-3
FXI-3 (DIPOLE)
FX-300i REAR (DIPOLE ?)
The L,C,R and side surrounds form a wide triangle with the rear surrounds lining up with the front stereo pair.
Even though Polk recommends not to be outside the "null" area of a dipole speaker- "or the effect is ruined"-with my corner room setup I'm probably not within the exact "Null" area of any of my surrounds yet with dipole the entire soundfield sounds better (for movies & music and SACD) - To me it just increases the sweet spot while at the same time taking away "The Precedence Effect" in the stereo image.
Anyone care to help me out on this one and or give your opinions? Thanks.

There is a web site I saw somewhere, Infinity I believe it was, specifically about corner room set-ups, and how it was a good thing. I'll try to find it for you later and post a link to it here.

Hey Marker- thanks for the advice. After doing a long Google search I finally found a link to help me out; AND from a reputable source no less.
A very good read called "Dipolar Confusion" written by Tomlinson Holman (the godfather of THX, and "5.1") dispells the popular rumor that Dipoles are only good for Dolby Pro-Logic; and from my listening experiences I'm inclined to agree with him. I learn something new about this stuff everyday.
Maybe this info can help out others out as well.

Here it is:

Edit-well, the link didn't work, so I copied and pasted what it said about corner layouts. It also had graphs too, but I couldn't copy them.:

A Solution to a Common Problem: it WORKS!
And it is sociable!!
It amazes me that so few people think to do this. If you are not
building a special entertainment room from scratch, the probability is
very high that there will be a fireplace, a door, a window, or an
opening, precisely where the video display should go. It has
happened in my last two houses, in spite of my attempts to avoid it.
So, just go with the flow, and put the system on the room diagonal.
Those bothersome side-wall reflections go away, the side channel
loudspeakers are a long way from the listeners if they are in the
corners, equalization will be necessary, otherwise move them down
the walls a couple of feet or more.
Having lived with this, I have come to really like it. The space
behind the TV can hide a subwoofer, or a rack of equipment, or both.
It is excellent for a general-purpose entertainment room. Now, I
would not hesitate to deliberately design a room in this configuration.

Found it!!
Just read P.9 Thanks for the information Marker. Yup- That is my EXACT room layout for sure. After some experimenting it does seem that 4 Di-poles (even in the back) ARE the best way to go: for both movies & music. -
Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms) -
Thanks! I don't know why mine didn't work, but all's well that ends well.
AAH, I don't know about dipoles, but I guess in that particular case, they would probably actually be better.
I have 2 pair of FXi3 in one of my rigs, but I leave them in bipole mode. I wish I could trade them for RTi4 or RTi6 instead though.
