Very cool... A while back my friend and I were looking into propane jet engines and how to build them. Decided to go a little safer route. You can put one on a go kart and take it to about 100 mph on the highway :p

I used to fly model helicopters. I had friends that flew the jets. I have also been to one of the largest jet meets in the country. That jet will run you about 25K in materials. You have to build it and paint it yourself. They are very cool. The faster ones will do about 250mph. To be honest I never really liked the jets though, All you can really do is fly really fast in one direction, turn around, and then fly really fast in the other direction. And then repeat. Arobatics are limited to rolls, invertd flight, and loops.

    Helicopters on the hand......;)

The fastest thing I have ever personally flown did about 150mph. Speed is very relitave though, once you get used to it, it is no harder to fly a 150mph plane than it is to fly a 75mph plane.

I also have seen one of those $25k planes crash and then burn. The largest piece that was left was around the size of a silver dollar.

You can get in to jets for around $2k. Nothing very sexy about the 2k jets though, basiclly just a flying wing with a jet strapped to the top of it. The support equipment for the jets can also get very expensive. You have to have a scuba tank(compressed air) to get the engine up to speed, then you have to have a special igniter, and all kinds of other crap. They carry it around in radio flyer wagons.

Helicopters are still much cooler :)
