Keeping "Pace"

Which component is responsible for the "pace" of the music? I'm assuming it's the source, but here's why I'm askin'. My friend and I have the same CD player (mine has been modded, though, with a higher quality op amp and other stuff). However, the same CD on his system sounds "faster" than mine. Also, is it possible to know which "pace" the music is actually supposed to be?
Just curious.

By "sounds faster" do you mean that it takes less time for one system to play a given track? Or do you mean that the sounds seem to have a faster attack and decay? Do the two systems do this with different sources or is it with just the cd player for example?Setup:

I noticed a pretty big change in pace between my Anthem Pre and Amp 1 compared to my Musical Fidelity A3 integrated. Me and a buddy we're swapping things around and we're totally confused for a sec when the MF was hooked up after the Anthems and the music seemed fast. Same source and speakers but what a wierd experience.SDA-2a, Anthem Pre-2L, Anthem Amp 1, MF A324 DAC, Rotel RCD1070
