Thanks Early, I could not for the life of me find a distributor. I actually looked in the phone book for window tinting, and found the Solar Screen company. So you may look locally there.

Warning they are a little pricy, but their products work. One thing they do to show you it works, is they take a hair dryer, turn it on and get it piping hot, then you put your hand on one side of the screen while the blow dryer is on the other, all you could feel is the air moving, not the heat. Same goes with a heat lamp. You can feel a little heat but not near the 150+ degree heat the lamp is putting out.

I had one massive window that was 90 inches wide, and 50 inches high, that cost me 450 dollars, all the ither windows ran in the 225 dollar range. But that was install and everything.

IT can hit about 120 in the attic, but if you can clear that out & get it down to the outside ambient temp, it makes a huge difference. I think it was about $90 at the hardware store.

Correct, attic ventilation is probably the easiest, least costly first step. Down here in the south i've been in attics with minimal/no ventilation and have seen 147 degrees.
Just remember to weather strip around any pull down ladder, and other air leak sources, they tend to let the attic fan pull conditioned air from the living space into the attic and out of the house. Keep in mind also to much fan cfm can be a problem. If you pull the attic into a negative pressure situation the make up air has to come from somewhere.(make sure you have ample gable vents or soffet vents)

In Texas they virtually have to install two AC units. One for up and one for downstairs. Or in my case, two for down and one for up.

I live in a two story house as well, and have only one unit. I have to keep my thermostat at 70 to keep it pleasant up and down. The downstairs will always be a little cooler no matter what. I just "set it and forget it" during the summer season. You can't make your dad set it on 70 nor can you make him buy another ac unit, so the only thing to do is maybe get a window ac unit for your room. My house is 10 years old, and the room over the garage is huge, but was not built with ac ducts installed so I ended up getting a window unit which worked out well. Good luck. It really sucks to be hot and uncomfortable.:(

I do have a window A/C unit from our last house, which didn't have central air. It is mine, and I purchased it with my own money, however getting him to let me run it is a whole nother thing.

And if I get to use one, then my step brother and sister and gonna **** and moan about it being soooo hot in their room, and why does Noah get an air conditioner? I can hear it already, so I'm not even going to go there.

So yeah, I have to make it cool for everyone, or just suffer in the heat :)
    Ludicrous gibs!

Man! That sucks! Is there a window on the upstairs hall that would maybe circulate the air and help cool all three rooms? You still would have to get past pops though. Sorry about that man. Just a suggestion. Did you guys talk about the situation? Let me guess, he said no to the window unit, or adjusting the main unit to make you guys comfortable. Well, I hope things get better for you guys.
