Wow, saw this on another forum and it is a true loss for this country

Shelby Foote passed away Monday at the age of 88. He was born in 1916. You may remember him from the PBS mini-series The Civil War by Ken Burns. He was the soft spoken southern gentleman that they referenced many times for historical references. It is a true loss, the man was a great asset to the country and had a knack for telling history in a way that made it not only interesting but it sticks with you.

I'm actually kind of sad about it and I had no idea that he was 88 years old. In 1990, when The Civil War was originally broadcast, he didn't even look 74.

    Big loss. He could tell you more history in one sitting than most folks will know in a lifetime.
