Hey guys, I've been lurking more than posting lately...finishing school, house hunting, etc...has taken a lot of my time.
Anyway, me and the wife decided to buy a new AC unit for the bedroom. Sounds like an easy process, right?
Wrong..
We have a fridgidaire unit from last year that works great..and with my sash opening of max 15" they make a small footprint unit with higher btus that I can fit. So I went and looked for the same brand....read on
Went to the store and picked up an analog (non digital) frigidaire 8000btu unit. Ok no problem, I bring it home, lug it up to the second floor, open the box and noticed immediatley that the window kit (rail that goes into the sill) on the bottom was loose. It looks like the tiny welds were broken...
bring it back, get another one, open it up in the store, same problem....turns out that all these units in their stock room had defective window support rails.
So I get different unit, same brand (this one is all digital, remotes, etc). I lug this unit up to the second floor, looks good, put it in the window and run it for about 1 hour and then the thing craps out....compressor made a sudden very deep, loud hum, blowing warm air..I immediately shut this thing off because something obviously went wrong.
Take this thing back and exchange it for another, same unit.....proceed to lug this thing upstairs again....open the box(which was sealed with plastic straps) take the protective foam out and immediatley noticed the front grill by the vent was smashed and a huge bubble in the AC frame next to the vents..Now the box was "clean" with no sign of fork life damage. So it looks like they shipped this thing broken right out of the factory..
Man what is going on with Fridgidaire???
The salesman said they recently switched factories from U.S (Augusta , GA) to overseas....hhmmm....that's interesting
Now I am off to find another brand

The crap just keeps coming....went to the website to call customer service. The 800 number is only to find service centers, buy an ext warranty, etc. But if you want to speak to a representative for "other" issues, you must call a non-tollfree number that starts with 706....nice customer service...
Believe me, I will write a letter. I already took digital pics of the damaged units to send them..with my love letter

What's this "non-tollfree" stuff? There's still long distance in the world?
Get a cell phone or what not and talk to a real person. A letter will get swept under the rug. Not that your phone call won't, but at least you can be adamant and speak to someone who matters.
Or, call the 800 number, ask to speak to a manager, and work your way up that way. You may be able to sneak in without a toll callIf you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Generally speaking a handwritten letter gets more attention than anything else you can do. Most companies figure that if you actually take the time to sit down and write a letter, put a stamp on it, and then mail it, you are pretty serious.
That and send it return reciept reqested. That will make someone sign for it. That should really get thier attention. It will cost you a little extra, but it is worth it.Setup:

My suggestion:
Call now, and THEN immediately send a followup letter with the details of your experience and resolution(s), if any, as part of the call. The content of the followup letter will be mostly dictated by how well the phone conversation went, and if the resolution was to your satisfaction. Confirm in writing any expectations you discussed as a result of the call - then it's their move.Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)
