Anyone know if the Yamaha HTR-5830 is any good??? I plan to buy this and match it with the Monitor line. If no one has any experience with this receiver, does anyone know if Yamaha in general sounds with Polk speakers??? Also, does Yamaha have better value than Onkyo for their receivers???

I am using a yamaha HTR-5730 with R 50's and R 15's, I am very satisfied with the receiver, works well with music and movies.

IMO, the Yamahas, Onkyos and Denons are all about the same value-wise. Most people around here I believe prefer the Denon. In my experience, I always thought the Yamahas had the best processing chips for surround sound and effects but I thought they were the worst of the three for music reproduction. Just one opinion however. If it was me, I'd do some research and spend about the same kind of money on one of the better Pioneer Elites used. Actually if it was me I'd say screw surround sound and set up a nice 2-channel rig2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. Computer - Windows 10/JRiver, Schiit Magni 3+/Modi 3+, Fostex PMO.4n monitors, Sennheiser HD600 headphones

If you like bright sound- then Yamaha, Onkyo and Pioneer are for you.
The monitor speakers tend to sound neutral/bright for most recordings- especially music.
If you want to offset the Monitors bright sound characteristics- then check out H/K, Denon or Marantz. They'll give you a more balanced sound imo. -

I know....I was thinking the same thing! I had to reread the posts but still couldn't find the kicker2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. maybe Barney will post his results. I'm curious. Haven't heard a Yamaha receiver in about 2 years.

Hey guys,
I have had the receiver for a while but hadn't set everything up till yesterday. Right now I am driving Monitor 40/30/ CS1/PSW10 with the Yammie. To me, it sounds...... hmmm how do I describe it??? It sounds a little "brighter" and "harsher" than the TX-SR502, which is what I was previously using. The sound is plenty powerful but I feel like there is a little less detail in the sound then the Onkyo. But I didn't expect it to blow the Onkyo away for the price. Anyway, now I am gonna upgrade the living room with better speakers for my Onkyo.
