I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading my speakers from the Monitor series to the RTi's. I bought the Monitors for HT when my new TV was to big to put my floor speakers in the room.
They sound ok but not as good as my old ones by a long shot.
(I new that when I bought them but I thought I would be able to live with it, but you know how that goes.)
Would the sound quality of the RTi's be much better? Keep in mind I must use book shelf speakers.

It's hard to say, what sounds good to you may not sound good to me. The RTi series is a step up (according to Polk) and I've heard that the tweeter used is better, but I don't speak from experience with regards to the monitor series--haven't heard them.

I think for the money, the Rti6 would be a great choice either way.

I have no doubt that the RTi's are better speakers. I just want to know if the improvement is big enough to warent replacing all my speakers. Maybe it would make more sense to upgrade to even higher end speaker then the RTi if I'm going to spend the extra cash.

If you don't mind spending the extra $$$, then get the LSis. What will you be driving them with?

agreed. might as well stretch the budget to LSis.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I was looking at the lsi's but they are 4ohm speakers. My AVR has a switch for 4ohm's but I don't trust it to drive the lsi's.

Hi there thought I would add my .02 cents here if you dont mind. I got the chance to do some very extensive listening to the Polk Rti6 today and I must say I am quite impressed. I personally thought that the Monitor 40's were better but not anymore. The build of the Rti6 was superb. The cabinet is solid period. The real wood veneer finish is very nicely done. The soundstage was very impressive, sound was crisp and clear--you know nothing rolled off thats for sure. Imaging was astounding. However, I did notice that Rti6 was a lil bit forward and at times a little too bright. For example, I was using Linkin Park as me demo material and noticed that Chester's voice was quite overly done almost sounding harsh. A simple adjustment on the receiver such as attenuating the treble a little made it much more refined. There is NO doubt IMHO that the Rti line is significantly superior than the monitor series. Polk has a real winner here and I may be soon a Polk owner myself. Good luck in your descision.
The way one uses a product is a much more SIGNIFICANT factor than which product(s) he uses.

That just about says it all! Thanks for all the help guys. I think it's time for an upgrade.

And for ND13. My AVR is a Yamaha RXv-650. Not the best, but pretty damn good for the $350 I paid for it new.

Another .02, opt for using your pre outs on the A/V and go with a separate amp, you can get a good used parasound HCA-1000 on the cheap, or some Marantz MA-500 monoblocks.......they will handle a 4ohm load....

MSALLA that is only my opinon however. It's the majority opinion here as well (by far) but still you should A/B listen both monitor and rti for a fair comparison just to be sure. Good luck! =)
