why is it that a car can power several 1000+ wat amps ??
but in ht we question if a deticated circuit is needed for our seperats? And i have read that you cant make 300 wats per channel without a 20 amp circuit?

Do you really think that they are created equal? Have you ever seen the size of the power supply in the car amp, compared to the power supply in a stereo amp? Look at the transformer on a real amp, and open up your car amp and look at the transformer........you are comparing two items that need no comparison. Also a car can't really power several 1000 watt amps.....esp. if they are truly rated, several high current power amps in a car would require a larger alternator, possibly another battery, and a a cap on each amp...

People who run TRUE high-powered systems in their vehicles DO have to do extensive rewiring to support their systems, including multiple alternators, batteries, and caps.
HOWEVER, your standard 1000W Sony amp is probably rated for 1000W peak, right before it blows up. Home amps are usually rated more honestly.Ludicrous gibs! -
One is AC 110v based, one is DC 12v based.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

As for circuit breakers, here's a good rule of thumb- take the watts the amp puts into 4 ohms, multiply by two, multiply by the number of channels, divide by 110. This is the smallest amperage circuit breaker you want the amp on.
So 300 watts into 8 ohm~= 500 watts in 4 ohm X2 = 1000
1000 x2 channels= 2000/110volts= 18amps. Thus a 20 amp circuit can handle a 300 watt amp... but many people recommend stepping that up to 30amps.
Alternatively, you can look up the max power consumption in your manual- if it's in watts, divide by 110 to get amps.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
