Has anyone on here tried this product? They have some pretty bold claims. I remember taking an old electronic zapper to my LP's back in the day to "anti-static" the LP.......Just wondering if this product would have any real improvement. Obviously, I could buy it and try it. But at 329.00 would rather here of someone that actually has used it..

And is called the Furutech RD-2 Disc Demagnetizer

If you can't pick up paperclips with your CD's, I wouldn't worry about it.

I would say that you will not hear a difference unless you are a golden ear that has already spent $50k on a reference system.

If you can't hear the difference between 12GA zip cord and exotic braided speaker cords, then don't bother wasting your money on this.

uhhh, CD's are made out of aluminum and polycarbonate -- neither of which are magnetic/magnetizable. So... what's to demagnetize?

According to the advertising for this product, the aluminum is only 99% of the alloy and there is a remaining 1% that could be magnetized!!!! Also the paint for the lable could have iron and other metals that could be slightly magentized.

Its all BS if you ask me. Its an optical system. Even if it were heavily magnetized, I don't think that would affect playback.

"What is the result of the 18 seconds spent in this classy looking, silent demagnetizer? The treated disc offers much better focus and image specificity, as well as clearer, more delineated instrumental lines. There is an increase in the sense of spaciousness of the recording, accompanied by a sense of the reduction of digital "haze" or "hash." It also affords a degree of reduction of the noise floor. There is a bit more warmth to mids and a slight lessening of the glare often noted on less than perfectly recorded pop works. There is a richer harmonic presentation, easily noted with orchestral works or intimate jazz pieces, that is very welcomed. In addition, probably due in part to the lowering of the noise floor, there is an improvement to the low frequency pitch definition. Overall, these are very desirable improvements that I've found no other way to achieve with standard Red Book CD playback."

This is the reviewers notes from stereotimes. I always love to read reviews on their "reference system". I wonder how much clearer and delineated it would of got if he would of had a bunch of stuff to review. Power Cable, Speaker Cables, Power Brick, Power Conditioner, IC's, speaker spikes, etc. etc. It would of been so clear it may have even been 'transparent'.....I always wonder about them reviewers, I mean doesn't the musicality of it all come to a peak?

You'll get a far greater improvement in the sound quality by simply rewinding your CD's and DVD's after each listening session.

I have tried it. I was over at a friend's house and he put my 1812 disc in that thing. No, of course it doesn't work, but I didn't have the heart to tell him.

Okay, so this is an old thread.

I had just read about the "CD Demagnetizer" and did a search and this thread came up.

The review quote in post #14 was so hilarious I thought I would bump for the pleasure of those who may have never heard of these things.

Apparently there's a new version out, it's new & improved.

Price is new & improved too, up to $450 from the old price of $330 - it must be better!

Personally I wouldn't waste time on a cheapo 450 dollar machine. I'd take my Cds to the nearest hospital put them in an MRI unit.

    Now that's HI-FI!!

What is demagnetizing even supposed to accomplish? What in the process of a laser reading pits off a disc could possibly be improved by demagnetization?

This has got to be one of the best (worst) audiophile scams on the market :p

Wouldn't that turn it into an ABBA CD? :D

I would not dismiss it nor most any other tweak out of hand, try it for yourself, if you like it keep it, if not send it back and be wiser for the experience.

Never tried one myself, I would like to try the machine that true's the disc though.

I have a friend who swears this thing is the best thing since sliced bread. I haven't tried it yet but do not dismiss anything until I at least try it. I'm not magnetic yet the static builds up in me when I walk across the carpet and zaps me when I grab the door knob.

I hate to say this but, we have to keep an open mind just like we ALL do when it comes to wires :D

So what does static electricity have to do with being magnetic?

This device just proves there really is one born every minute.
