Next weekend we are heading up to the cottage (3 day weekend). My wife hates mice. What I need is help as to how to get ridd of the mice, without the use of poison ( as the dog will be with us). I have 2 in mind:

1- cook fatty foods , fill the sink up with a couple inches of water, pour the grease in the sink. This is supposed to work according to my father who has done this. The grease attacts the mice they fall in the sink and since the cant get out of the sink they drown.

2- my mother in-law bought us one of those pest controles you plug into the wall and emmits a high freq. sounds wich the mice don't like. Doesn't seem to bother the dog, so is it BS or can mice hear higher freq. than the dog?
Has any one tried this device on mice? does it work.

Please let me know of other methods. (the old fashion type traps won't work caus the dog loves cheese and peanut butter)

Thanks

I used to have a pest control business in the 90's and rats & mice were my specialty. There is a chemical pellet called Talon G. If you can find some, put 10-15 pellets in the corner of a plastic sandwich bag, and a half tea spoon of peanut butter, tie off the bag and place it behind heavy furniture or appliances. 4-5 bags like this will more than treat the place and will cost maybe 4 bucks. Talon G is a dehydrant, so when the mice ingest it, they will usually leave the house in search of water. If they get to water and drink, it speeds up the chemical process and they die quicker. This stuff works like a charm, but be sure to place it in areas where the dog cant get to it. As I said, the best place is behind heavy furniture or appliances because mice prefer to run along walls because the dont see very well. Hope this helps.
Everytime I think I'm out, THEY PULL ME BACK IN!!!!!!

there are metal trap you can get that are about the size of a box.. you put a sticky trap inside of them.. so it's pet friendly. but the dang rodents check in, but they don't check out. :p

it works great.. and easy to dispose of once they're DOA. ;)

thanks, I also heard leaving dirty cat litter around, the smell will drive the mice away, they think a cat is around.

hmmm, BTW that should be control with out the E. sticky traps, sounds interesting, I may check it out. What I thougt of doing with the used litter was , placing it all over in the crawl space under the cottage, not under my bed. But I will look for these sticky traps, not sure where to buy them.
