Good morning people. I have a few questions that I hope some of you can answer. I noticed that the monitor series claims to use 3'4" mdf baffles. Kool by me but what are the cabinets made of and how thick? I assume Polk uses mdf for the cabinets as well with at least a 5/8" thickness??? I also noticed that the tweeter in the monitor series is not the same used in the Rti line. The monitors use 1" fabric/polymer whereas the Rti line uses a 1" silk dome. Furthermore, the monitor series does not use butyl rubber surrounds.... am I right? Anyways, these are some of the differences I have noticed between the materials used in each respective series. Any other differences anyone care to mention. Please elaborate. Thank you for your time.

The Rti's are plain better speakers than the Monitors. The Monitor tweeter is inferior, and the general consensus is that they are very bright, and if the Rti line leans a bit toward too bright, the Monitors must be really bad.Current System:

You know I get that a lot. Funny, I listened to the monitor 40's and the Rti6 extensively and did not find the monitor 40's inferior in any way whatsoever. True, the Rti6 has a better tweeter and the Rti series are made better than the monitor series but is there really that much difference in their sound? I mean is the Rti series that much superior to the monitor series? Personally, I dont think so. Sure the Rti6 is a lil better than the monitor 40 but NOT BY MUCH IMHO. The Lsi series is much better I suppose but it is way out of my price range so why even bother. Besides, my yammie may have a tough time driving 4ohm loads on a regular basis. I believe many people here say A is better than B because A uses real wood veneer or A cost more money. Just wish I could for once get a totally unbiased opinion about how the monitor series stacks up against the Rti series. The way one uses a product is a much more SIGNIFICANT factor than which product(s) he uses.

Oh another thing is if a speaker is said to be bright why not make some adjustments with your settings and smooth the sound out a little. If it is too forward turn down the level(output) a bit or if it is too laid back why not turn the level up a bit. Another thing I forgot to mention was that I prefer bookshelfs over towers anyday. So, many of my questions focus on just that. You know the Rti6 and 4 or the monitor 40 or 30 and etc.The way one uses a product is a much more SIGNIFICANT factor than which product(s) he uses.

i did an a/b comparo of a monitor 30, rti-4 and lsi-7 hooked to a H/K pre/pro with Adcom as the amp. The H/K/Adcom combo yielded a neutral sound- the best to do speaker comparos.
IMO- the rti4's sounded somewhat better than the monitor 30's with movies- and killed the monitor 30's with music.
As far as the LSI-7 goes- of course it was better than the rti4 and monitor30. but the rti was closer to the lsi in quality than the monitor was to the rti.
I used that and the differences in cost between the three- and came to the conclusion that the rti was the best value for MY money. -
I am not surprised at all by what you found. However, I believe the choice may have been a lot tougher to make between the monitor 40 and the Rti6. For some reason or another the monitor 40 is kinda like the one coming out of know where if you know what I mean. Sure, the Rti6 will probably still win out over all but not by much IMHO. Have you ever done that kind of an A/B test? The way one uses a product is a much more SIGNIFICANT factor than which product(s) he uses.
