Can you make a copy of either format using a disc to disc box so you have a backup option in case the originial gets scratched to hell?

I'm wondering if a standard HT type cd copier would work with those formats......

you _should_ be able to create a copy of a DVD-a disk with a DVD burner in a computer. Disk to disk would require two DVD drives. Not sure if computer DVD drives read DVD-A, though... never had one to try.

    SACD, I have no clue.

Why would it have to be a dvd burner? They're just single layer audio discs with no video on them, aren't they?

I'm not sure. I guessed that the "DVD" part of their name implied that they were written to a DVD, and the "-A" part of their name meant that they were audio only.

    Correct me if I'm wrong...

Now, the SACDs, I figure are CDs, but encoded some special way. I'm sure a Google search would show some more information, but I'll leave that up to you.

    You can't copy either format.

I doubt your computer's drive would decode the DVD-a or SACD layer on a disc. that's why they sell players to play them.. and you have to use the 6 analog RCA's.

SACD and DVD-A are both basically DVD format disks that hold about 4.7GB

DVD-A can be copied if you have the right software. Most DVD computer drives will recognize the disk and you can copy/decrypt, and reburn the files. A stand alone copier will not do the trick. You can also play the DVD-A on computers with good multi channel soundcards. This is one of the selling points for the newer Soundblaster Audigy cards.

SACD is not recognized by computer drives, unless they are a hybrid disk that has a redbook layer. In that case, the computer will see the redbook layer and you can copy that, but you will just end up with a CD.
