Need some what affordable amp for RTi12
Ok guys I took the leap and got a pair of RTi12s.
Right now I have them hooked to a HK AVR635 amd they sound pretty damn good but needs some obvious punch. What 2 channel amp can you guys recommend for the RTi12s?
I dont want to spend more than $500 if I can help it. The cheaper the better (While still obtaining a good amp).
Thanks.
OR
I have a friend that wants to buy my 635. Should I buy a HK AVR7300 instead of keeping the 635 and buying some amps. I still dont think the 7300 would be enough for the RTi12s but I could be wrong.

If you're in the market for a beefier receiver, I wholeheartedly recommend the B&K AVR 507 S2. It's a wonderful machine, 150 wpc, high current, awesome sound. Still a little light for the 12's I think, but it will sound leaps and bounds better than Harman Kardon. It's a bit more than the 7300, but it's worth it. Unless you want HDMI switching, then it won't be a good unit. B&K likes to wait until something is perfected to include it in their products, and there have been some issues w/ HDMI.
If going w/ the separate amp idea (definitely cheaper), look for a good used one online. $500 won't buy you **** new, except maybe an Outlaw Mono Block. A B&K Ref 200.2 is also a great choice, but that is $1500.Current System:

Get the Outlaws. Or a used Parasound 1500A. Lots of good choices for your budget. Think 200 wpc.
Forget about the 7300.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
"God grooves with tubes." -
Go with the Outlaw M-Blocks. I have the RTi12's right now and am looking at doing the same thing.
I've got an Onkyo TX-NR900 (110 wpc) and I am thinking of bi amping, using the Onkyo to run the mid's/tweets and running mono blocks to the woofs. A couple of other guys here with 10's and 12's are thinking of doing the same thing.
I am really considering taking the plunge since the Outlaws can be returned. If you do it soon post a review and let us know how it worked out.A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part... -
A quick search on Audiogon found:
- several Parasound HCA-1500A amps within budget
- several Rotel RB-990BX within budget
- Rotel RB-1080 over budget
My suggestion would be either of the first two amps in the above list. -
Good info guys. Has anyone heard anything about the
Crown XLS-402?
Also where the heck to I buy the Outlaw Monoblocks? I cant seem to find them on sale anywhere.Testing

Outlaw is an internet only outfit. They do not have dealers, but ship directly to the consumer, like SVS for subwoofers.

Used Adcom, parasound, rotel or new outlaw should be in your price range and get you what you need. Adcom is probably going to be the cheapest and plenty of guys around here have used them. It's not the amp that you're going to have forever, but for the price you can't beat 'em
Crown is more of a live sound/PA amp, but I think there's someone on this forum who swears by them. I've used them when I was in a band and they did great in that capacity.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

this may be a stupid question...but do external amps add to the wattage of the Receiver or are the speakers powered solely by the external amp?
Sorry if this looked like hijacking, but I thought one post would answer my question .
I am going to get a pair of Rti 10's soon and if my Onkyo 700 doesn't power it well I might need one.
Thanks,

I have a nad c272 powering a pair of rti-10's and it sounds good...The greatest enemy of truth is very often not the lie - deliberate, contrived and dishonest - but the myth - persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

How many WPC is the nad c272? Is there a place to purchase NAD online?Testing

The C272 from NAD is 150 wpc into both 4 and 8 Ohms. I'm not really sure of how that works, the load being the same for both impedances, but I've seen it often enough. Most amps usually have a higher rating for 4 Ohms, I'm not sure which is better.
From what I've seen, NAD works exclusively with dealers. Use their website to find one. If you buy online, it's probably not an authorized dealer, which meand no warranty protection.

YAWA is an authorized nad dealer, great company with great people. I purchased my amp for $531 and that included shipping... It's a nice sounding, simple, powerful amp... yawaonline.com/The greatest enemy of truth is very often not the lie - deliberate, contrived and dishonest - but the myth - persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

I forgot to include: disregard the list price for the nad components on yawa. Write them an email and ask for a quote for the amp and they will give you a better price.
Seems as if NAD will not allow yawa to show its actual selling prices. By the way all units are new in box with full warranty unless listed as b-stock..The greatest enemy of truth is very often not the lie - deliberate, contrived and dishonest - but the myth - persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.
