Polk MM2104 vs. Infinity Perfect 10.1

I have been looking for reviews on the 2104 outside of this site, and haven't found much of anything. Not that I don't believe the product reviews on polkaudio.com, but...
Is this sub relatively new? I'm weighing this against the wealth of info out there on the 10.1, which seems to get glowing reviews, no matter where the reviews are written.
I'm looking for sound quality and a little punch in the stomach. I'm not looking to put on a concert for whomever I happen to drive past. I get enough of that where I'm from - I don't need to contribute to it.

humm this is hard for me to vote, I have heard both but not at the same time and not in similar installs,
I would look into a SoundSplinter RL-i 10 also -
Get the Polk. Sounds as good as the Infinity and costs half as much.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

I think the Polk is the plan. All in all, the 10.1 is really only $20 more, but it's also on factory backorder.
I'm off to scrounge for an enclosure today (I'm in no way ready to fork over $60+, with shipping, for a box). More to come of course! -
Build your own. Its cheaper.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Ahh, I've got too much building to do here already. Believe me.
But I did find a $10 off/free shipping coupon to help lessen the pain. -
Just make sure its made out of wood.
A lot of boxes like Q Logic makes em out of plastic!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

I'd imagine you'd have fewer leaking problems with plastic....until you sat on it.George Grand wrote: »

Or until the bass hit and the entire box flexed and your sub sounded like ****!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

But hey, it'd make for an awesome show when that first big bass note hits and your plastic box goes flying into the parking lot in 5 pieces. Well, at least it'd be cool once.George Grand wrote: »

So that I do this in a methodical fashion, can someone suggest some things to do to help the break-in process along?
Are there certain things I should avoid playing?
And can someone qualify the statement "play at a low volume for 20 hours" - who has determined the universal concept of "low"?
Thanks all. Got it boxed up, and trying not to hurt it! -
Just play it. Our older model subs (Momo classic) seemed to require careful playing for a while to ensure long life. The newer stuff isn't as fragile. If it's making bad noises turn it down a bit, but other than that just play it how you want.
-
Well, I won't ignore that advice. Play it!
A few things I'm noticing so far:
1) I ordered a Q-Logic .6510SE hatch box for this sub, and it wasn't a great fit. The hole in the box is just slightly too big to get all the screws lined up with some meat to bite into, and a couple of the screws i had to cut in at a rather extreme angle. At this point, I only have four in there. It's pretty tight but I need to check it when my neighbors aren't around.
2) In spite of the rated 298W RMS going into the sub, it's not hitting my guts out, and I might almost call it a bit muddy. Either the 300W RMS advertised isn't enough to make it pound, I don't really have 298W, my install stinks and the box leaks, or i'm not listening to the right kind of music. Suggestions on the music anyone? -
Possibly all of the above.
Is that Q Logic box made out of MDF or plastic. If its plastic like a lot of their boxes are there is your probem right there.
Also, 290 watts aint a whole lot so dont expect to blow your windsheild out with it.
Add to that a little breaking in of the new sub.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

It's MDF, I swear.
I know some of their boxes have some plastic pretty parts (and some more than others) on the outside, but I'm not sure any of them actually are plastic construction. -
Well then its the power. Like I said, 298 watts isnt enough to "hit your guts out". For that youll need to be in the 750-1000 watt range.
Besides, while the Polk subs do hit pretty hard, they are primarily a SQ sub so quit expecting them to move more air than a wind tunnel and enjoy the smooth bass you get out ot it.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

And I am, oh and I am. This thing is really breaking in nicely. It literally sounds better and better every day.
