...was in Barnes and Noble last night and saw a book called Basic Electronics from Barnes and Noble publishing. I began paging through it and thought it looked very familiar. Then I flipped to the back cover and saw this sentence: "Originally published by the United States Navy as a training manual..."
This is a reprint of the Bureau of Naval Personnel Training Manual. This is book that is on every wrokbench and ESD station and many desks here at work. This is a very comprehensive book for giving someone a good understanding of electronics in general and reinforcing and/or learning repair/troubleshooting techniques.
If you want to learn about tubes and the how/why they work aspect, this is a great place to start. It also covers transmitters and recievers and tons and tons of other good info. This also gives some basic examples and if you want to learn how to construct your own gear like amps and pre-amps, this is probably teh best book to start with. Any DIY'er should have this book in thier library too. I reccomend it to anyone interested in electronics and at $15, it is not a bank breaker.
If you go to get this book and they do not have it, they can order it at no extra cost save for maybe shipping.
