Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition

Ok, I have the 25th Anniversary Edition, with DD 5.1 and quite a few extras but still lacking some from the new 30th edition to be released tomorrow, perhaps most importantly the DTS soundtrack and the extra hour of documentary (yeah, I know - it should have been included in the 25th), among other "lesser extras".
So my question is, who out there with the older DTS version believes the 30th edition is worth the upgrade, even without the extra hour of documentary and "lesser extras"? Is it THAT much more noticeable than the DD 5.1 re-mix?

Thanks, mrpergo. I picked up the 30th Ed. today before reading your post and review from the link, and am really glad I did. I can tell immediately that the DTS version packs a bigger punch than the DD, and I haven't even gotten to the "Third Act" yet. Looking forward to seeing the entire 2-hr documentary and other extras not on the 25th Ed.
Being that this is probably my favorite movie of all time, I'm actually glad I have BOTH versions in my megachanger!
I suppose the only complaint I could have with the "presentation" is the following:
You'd think by NOW the cover art would be changed to show what a REAL Great White shark would look like rising "from the depths" to snag a swimmer. What they show (and have ALWAYS shown) is what to me looks MUCH more like a huge Mako shark, NOT a Great White!Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

Thinking about this a bit more, I bet Universal/Spielberg will correct this problem on the 35th Edition, with NO OTHER CHANGES! And I'll buy it then, too! YES, I'm kidding!!!Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

I just watched Jaws again tonight, and then I heard about this new movie from New Line. They've been working on this one for a while, but it looks like a 2008 release according to IMDB.
It's called MEG:
Apparently a sketch of the ancestor to the Great White called the Megalodon, it is supposed to have been a true prehistoric fish.New Line Cinema has acquired the rights to "Meg," Steve Alten's horror adventure about a prehistoric shark. Jan de Bont is set to direct. The story features a 80-foot-long prehistoric shark known scientifically as Carcharodon megalodon and believed by some to be an ancestor of the great white shark. It terrorizes the California coast. Two men from opposite points of view are forced to work together to neutralize the threat. Shane Salerno is rewriting Alten's script, and Ken Atchity, Nick Nunziata, Guillermo Del Toro, Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Chi-Li Wong are producing. It may begin production this fall.
It'll be hard to top the fear factor of Jaws, and if they go overboard with the CGI it'll be a steaming ****, but this could have the fear factor if they manage to use todays amazing technology and keep it subtle with a large budget from a studio like New Line.

No way. No possible way it can top Jaws. That movie utilized too many Hitchcock suspense and horror tricks. Actually, Jaws was better BECAUSE 'Bruce' never worked right to begin with. Thank Christ for "hard" effects.
IMO the 1970's were the pinnacle of Hollywood. Instead of compelling storylines and character development, now we're force-fed screaming turds b/c the studios are no longer independent. Now they're ran by multi-billion dollar conglomerates that are run not by film-makers, but businessmen who wouldn't know a decent flick if it came up and bit them on the ****. They worship the almighty dollar instead of the almighty passion. I.E.- they cater to the MTV generation and that generation only because they're the ones that provide Hollywood with the most money at the theater and the most residuals on DVDs. Therefore, garbage in... garbage out 90% of the time.
Hell, I came out of the theater tonight with the first glimmer of hope in years thanks to the The Descent. And not only is it NOT an American movie, hell it's not even my genre of choice! That movie had zero CGI yet oodles and oodles of old-Hollywood style of filmaking. Creativity. IOW, character development and horror (not shock) = No screaming ****.
Sorry for the rant. If you think i'm crazy, then go rent Deep Blue Sea or whatever the hell it's called. -
They made a lot of **** movies in the 70s too.
The track records of movies like this is never good, in fact everyone thought Jaws was going to suck. I guarantee someone could make this movie and do a really good job. The formula is there. It's just more likely than not that it won't be any good.
I don't buy things were better a generation before the last like we always here. All that happened is that the **** had more time to settle to the bottom while the cream all rose to the top.
