Can this be hardwired into a car or must you use it with an inverter?

Your car has a 12 volt DC power supply. The PS2 requires a 120 volt AC power supply. In other words, youd have to have an inverter.

Check out truck stops. Over the road truckers use em to hook up their tv's and microwaves and whatever. Usually can find good deals on em there.

Or get a PSP car charger, I believe we carry them at Radioshack. You can use either the plug, or chop the end off and hard wire it.

PS2 converts 120VAC to 12VDC... so you can hook up the battery straight to the PS2. Use the magical site called google to find instructions.

I'm going to forget i made my earlier reply, due to the fact that i, for some reason, thought it said psp, not ps2. I'm going to walk away in shame now...lol

It has to be the newer slim model with the outboard transformer. The older models have the transformer inside and would require wiring past the internal transformer to use on 12VDC. Or use an inverter as I do.

if you get an inverter and mount it, say, in the side of the center console, you then have up to three plugs that are seamlessly integrated into the car, one of which can be used to power a ps2...

i plan on mounting mine to the left of the passenger's knees.

Inverters are great for powering 120 VAC stuff, just know that some have pretty loud fans to deal with.

Why go spend all that money on an inverter when you can splice some wires, solder a little bit, and have the PS2 hooked up for probably a couple dollars worth of stuff?

    That's my 2 cents.

Yeah, it wasn't hard. Just get to the main PC board and test (with a VOM) until you find the leads for the 12V after the transformer. We don't have switch in the Civic. It comes on whenever the car's on and you just hit the reset button on the front.
