DVI to Component conversion

Has any one tried a part that converts a DVI output to a Component input? Someone mentioned in another thread that they did this successfully, but the link for the part keeps mentioning how it's only compatible and test with one thing (something for the PC). My TV does not have a digital input, but my DVD upconverts and I would like to give it a try. I was just hoping someone else out there has tried this and had a good expericience (before I plunk down the $50). Thanks.

If your TV doesn't have a digital input then it's probably not HD capable is it? If it's not HD capable the upconversion is useless.

Nevermind just read your sig. Does your tv have an hdmi input?

ND, it's an older HD set without a DVI or HMDI input. At the time it was the best out there for the price and still looks fantastic (DVD look amost HD already). It does display 720p and 1080i nativley. I just always looking for the best picture possible and was hoping to get more out of my DVD player until I get a new set (I'm waiting until there is a standard with HD DVD and it becomes mainstream).

    Pablo,

Converting digital to analog would be a step back in picture quality. Just use the component video for the best picture quality. Since all of the enhancements to the orginal picture is done in the digital domain there is no way to convert the upgrade back into analog without spending tons of money that you can use to upgrade the TV.

Agreed. Don't waste time trying to convert digital to analog to digital. Even if such an adapter is available, it's not going to help you much. The player's upconversion may help to reduce some flaws in the picture, but the difference is not huge.

Honestly, if you're happy with your TV, the best thing you could do to improve your PQ is to upgrade your component video cables. Honestly, a great set of CV cables can be better than HDMI or DVI. Look into YIQ Three or YIQ Five from Audioquest. Really nice stuff, and it makes an obvious difference in PQ from the lesser stuff from Monster.

I'm gonna go aaginst the grain here and say try it. If ti only costs you $50 and gives you a chance of trying out the upconversion feature on your player, then you don't have much to lose.

My initial reaction is the same as those above, but just because I don't think it will work doesn't mean that it won't.

I say try it, and report back here.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will look around for one give it a try. My theater room is currently under constructions, but as soon as it's back up and running I'll let you know the results (and post some pictures of my new 'entertainment' room [since it has a small bar and the kids will use it to hand, it can't be just a HT room]).
