Hello, I have a question about cables.
I am in need of a y connector to hook up my amp to my center channel.
Can I use a mid/high quality sub y cable to do this? What is the difference between a sub cable and a regular cable?
Just wondering if I can save a trip to the store.
thanks.......kevin

Sub cable should work. -
I know the difference with the sub cables at Blue Jeans Cable is that the cable has better shielding and rolls off high frequencies. (two different issues, not a cause and effect)
Many sub cables are the same as normal RCA's with better shielding so you may get lucky and have no adverse effects.
It should work in a pinch especially for a center channel. If you like the results - keep it. If not, get another one.
I hate to say it, but the only decent y cables I have seen available locally (except DIY) was monster. I think you can order decent y cables from cobolt cables as well.

It'll work. It's just an RCA cable.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

there is absolutley no difference between a normal interconect and a sub cable.. The only difference that was already mentioned above is that some of sub cables have more shielding on them becasue they are normally going greater differences. Besides that.... regular old single core conductor with rca terminations

has anybody taken apart various cables to see if they indeed have more shielding?MY HT RIG:

i have taken apart several differnt cables from monster. i have taken apart a 2m analog audio cable, a 1m digital coax, and a 12' subwoofer cable.
They actually all had different levels of shielding, the coax having the most and then the sub cable and then the analog audio cable. -
As per comment above that is why I use coax for all my IC's, only cause I can buy AR pro II dig coax for 10$

IMO the best cable to use for all of your interconnects is some RG6Q that is rated for direct burial..... You will not find any better shielding then this
All of my cables in both my rigs (except speaker cable) is RG6Q with MCM rca terminations -
I used a fairly high quality car audio RCA cable for my sub, mainly because it's about 22 ft from the receiver, and I couldn't/wouldn't spend a couple of hundred $'s to get one that long. I have been pleasantly surprised with it's performance, so far. Some of the car audio cables are very well suited for home applications, also, IMO. They have to deal with alot of interferences that home gear doesn't. Just my .02."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

It was one that I had from my car audio days(late 80's/early 90's), I'd like to say Phoenix, but it might have been Precision Power. I ran PPI amps with JL subs, I think they made cables also, I've burned up alot of brain cells since then. I'll take a looksee at it tonight to see if it's labeled.
I do know that it has a foil shield in it also."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I do have it hooked up and have found a nice improvement when combined with the new/used Carver that I just got.
On a side note; 2 flea market purchases and 2 flawless transactions. Very nice. Thanks to the sellers and the "F.M. police" who keep everyone in line and watch out over rookies like myself.
