Hi--

I finally got around to moving a pair of SDA-SRS 1.2's from LI to my place, and now I need a good receiver.

The stereo equipment that came with it is older stuff, and does not have the right decoders for modern home theater.

What I would like is a receiver that has all of the features needed to process sound for a modern home theater, and preferrably has a built-in amp of sufficient power to properly drive the speakers.

I'd like a higher-end unit, and I don't mind spending the money, but I don't know if higher-end and all-in-one receiver are mutually exclusive qualities of a receiver.

As far as what I plan to do with it, I will use it for home theater (HDTV and Dolby broadcasts, DVD), and CD/MP3/Satellite Radio music.

Regarding budget, I'd like to keep it under $1000 or so.

Thanks.

Any recommendations?

What other speakers do you have for home theater? If they aren't big I would get a midline receiver with enough power to drive the surrounds and center and then spend the rest of the money on an amp for the SDA's

I'll second that advice. A receiver with enough of an amp to do the SDA's justice is going to run more than $1000. Used will get you a lot more for your money, if you don't have to have new stuff. A used Denon 3801 (or -02, -03, -05, whatever they're up to now) will have good quality processing to decode the surround formats. Add a used two-channel amp to drive the SDA's and you still should be able to stay comfortably under the $1000 mark.

What "older stuff" do you have? Perhaps you could sell some equipment and use the money to help offset the cost of any new gear you might want to buy.
