Rears / Surrounds
Hey guys! New to Club Polk!
Proud owner of a pair of RTI8's and a CSI5 Center as of yesterday. Now I need to decide on my rear selection. Not sure if I want to go with surrounds FXi5 or a pair of RTi6's.
I would like to hear some feedback on what you guys have concluded..

Hmmm... nice choice of speakers:D
I have RTi6s for surrounds and FXi5s for rears. Mostly that's because I don't have side walls where the surrounds are so I chose the monopole RTi6. My FXi5s are up against the rear wall so their sound bounces off that nicely. I think most people would tell you that bipole/dipole designs like the FXi5 work best if they have a nearby wall to work with.
Also, for music sources, monopole surrounds are the way to go, IMHO.
Having said that, I tried my FXi5s in dipole mode in a different system where they stood against walls, carefully positioned so that their null areas pointed at the listening postion, and they did a great job for movies.Multichannel Music:

Thanks for the relpy.
My new living area will open into the dining area, so there will be no walls. I was thinking of placing the rear speakers on stands, adjacent to the couch...
So the Rti6's may be the way to go? -
I think not having walls near the surrounds is an argument against using bipoles/dipoles such as the FXi5. If you listen to multichannel music more than HT that would be another reason not to get dipoles. Otherwise, the drivers in both the FXi5s and RTi6s are a perfect match for your 8s and CSi5.
I'm sure more people will chime in here with their recommendations.Multichannel Music:

JW- I may be in the minority here but I say get the f/x's regardless.
If you're going to put them on the side walls, put them to dipole mode for movies, bipole mode for music.
If you're going to put them on the rear walls, put them to Bipole for both movies AND music.
Bipoles sound great with multi-channel music and immerses you better in the sound imo. Afterall, isn't that what surround sound is all about?

JWBurns welcome
Fireshoes just posted some nice looking Fx5's. Might want to check them out. I love the ones I have and I also have the RTi8s and the CSi5.
no affil -
Go w/ the LSi/FX - they are awesome for both HT & SACD music. I've got mine on 30' stands 3ft behind my sofa & against both side walls. I couldn't be more pleased. Also tried AXIOM, APERION, KEF, Polk bookshelf (forget model#) none of them compared to the LSi/FX. Do it right the first time so you don't have to worry about the UPGRADE BUG biting you.."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up.
