Where is everyone vacationing this Summer?

What are everyone’s vacation plans for the rest of the year? I’m from Illinois and my family has owned a vacation house up near Hayward Wisconsin since I was very young, about a 5 hour drive away. I try to get up there 3 to 4 times a year, twice in the winter to snowmobile, and twice in the summer to fish and relax in the Northwood’s. I usually go up over the July 4th holiday, but this year I can’t because of work issues. I’m going up in August with a group of friends, and maybe in the fall when the leaves change.

It’s so peaceful up there. We are off the beaten path on a 22 mile spring fed lake. We usually fish for largemouth bass, walleye and occasionally pan-fish like crappy or blue-gills. Lots of fun, sun, and local watering holes. We water ski and jet-ski and generally forget about everyday problems and annoyances. Cell phones don’t even work until you get close to town which is about 40 minutes away. You should see the stars at night. With no city lights to interfere, the sky is lit up like Christmas tree. We take the pontoon out after mid-night and sometimes cruise until the sun comes up. Last time we counted 50 falling stars in about a 3 hour period. The wild life is great too. Lake size is 3,300 acres max depth of 75 feet.

Only problem is the older lake homes are being destroyed and large mansions are being built in their place. Kind of ruins the charm of being in the Northwood’s. Actually while the lake is by no means a commercial draw Phil Mickelson and Jack Nicklaus both have purchased large lake homes recently. One of the nice things about the lake is the opposite shore line is all owned by the Boy Scouts. It’s not quite an island, maybe a semi-island. So one side of the shore line, for most of the lake, has no homes on it. It’s a summer camp that all the Boy Scouts use called Tomahawk Boy scout camp it encompasses 2500 acres. Overall a great place to get away from everyday life.

Enjoy your summer

Asheville, NC is great. Going to be living there very soon. Greensboro just doesn't have any culture to it. It's like one big Elimidate set.

LOL!! Thats the problem. Its not my family that owns the business!!

If it was then Id be set! :D

Nope the company I work for is owned by a family. They take all the vacations, drive all the nice cars while we work our gonads off 12 hours a day til we bleed. But about 3 times a year they grill out hambergers and have a little cookout for those of us that actually survive the day.

lol. no Heiny. Have you ever heard of the Biltmore Estate? It was the mansion that was in Hannibal. It's located in Asheville, NC. No one lives there- it's open to the public for tours through the house, the gardens, the winery, etc. (Biltmore Estate Wine is pretty damn good as well)

I lived in Asheville for 1 year back in 1999 and the place is unbelievable. For the past 7 years straight, it's been rated by Forbes as one of the 10 best cities to live in the country.

I'll be moving back there when I graduate from UNCGreensboro.

Any connection to the Arizona Biltmore hotel in duh......Arizona?

Well, I travel a bit (Edmonton, Calgary, Whitehorse, Inuvik, perhaps Iqaluit), so I won't go too far. I'll spend a week fishing with my 6 year old son on the many lakes up here, my wife and I are flying to Edmonton in August for 4 or 5 days for an adult getaway (leave the child with friends) and 5 or 6 long weekends in the summer to play golf, fish, play snooker and relax. Two weeks at Christmas to stay home with the family should finish it off.

hopefully I'll go to chicago for a weekend... since I'm 18 I can't afford much more than that... but it's a get-away from home with a few of my best friends.

Or if I skip that I'm eyeing a video game tournament in Las Vegas called Evo.... it's for street fighter//fighting games. Been wanting to go to that for 3 or so years now and a close friend of mine is going. that all depends on June's income though.

No real vacation plans here, just a bunch of weekend camping trips if the weather allows. We're just about set up to hit some trails that were off limits when we had our Durango. Did a shake down run last wekend and everything seems to be working well. Stll need to weld on some supports for a couple of 5 gallon jerry-cans.
