Hey people,

My birthday is coming up and my mom has agreed to let me use her credit card to buy myself a t-amp for my birthday. I was curious where the best / cheapest place to buy one would be. I've been looking at the one on partsexpress but I'll be searching for a better deal. The sooner I can order it the better :D

Thanks,

Michael

PE is about as cheap as it gets. PLUS you can get the new catalog shipped to you for free. I swear, sometimes that catalog is better than a wack off magazine. Fun to look at.

    Cheers,

I actually prefer the AudioAdvisor catalog for that particular use.

I know, I always look fondly at the AA catalog, but I just can't do it.

    Why you ask?

Because I know Steveinaz's AA catalog is SOAKED in man chowder. I just can't focus knowing that. I think he literally 'rolls it up' and hits it like a red-assed monkey.

    Damn!

I ordered mine from PC Mall. They've got them for $20, BUT... they say call for expected ship date, so they may not actually have them in stock.

And their catalog is not nearly as good as PE's or AA. :D

Man, now I got NOTHING to add.

Top form, I tell ya. Doesn't get any better.

I do have a thing for the babe that's always pictured by the CD racks though.

    Eh..

She's got nothing on the "leather pants girl" that's always by the Bohlender Graebener ribbons in the PE catalog. Or the "free gig bag" girl, for that matter. Russ knows who I'm talking about.

I have read through that thread but not gone into the details of how you modified it. How did you make the ps? I havn't quite worked out that yet for mine.

Anything I should add to my order to do any cheap mods to it? What kind of replacement binding posts would be good for it?

what about these...? might do nicely mounted with everything out of that plastic box and into something new. or maybe these instead?

    these for rca replacements?

    Where'd ya get that chassis?

Alright I got antsy and ordered some stuff.

The coveted catalogue - fresh and clean (not soaked in... well lets move on to the next item :p )
Sonic Impact 5066 Class-D amplifier horking out a whopping 8 watts I belive
Some binding posts to replace the super tiny spring terminals
And finally some rca jacks to get rid of that 1/8" input

Wonder if this stuff will get here before the sub I ordered three weeks ago... I wouldn't doubt it  / :)

I'm still deciding on what kind of new look to give this amp. I was thinking some kind of wierd out of the ordinary thing like a vintage metal lunch box or something. It's gettin late... think later, sleep now.

keep in mind after you take the "amp" circuit board out of the plastic case its only about 1" x 3" so you don't need much room in the new case.... you can get "project boxes" from e-bay. My power supply was just a wall wart that i took apart and removed the tranformer inside and then added a large capacitor for a filter and to help give it reserve power.... i really didnt mod the board, however i removed the stock headphone jack from the board and also hard wired and removed the volume/off/on pot.. its really tiny to work on and not as easy as i thought to figure out. Course now i did one i know what to do... Have fun and good luck

Thanks for the info faster. Well I've been looking around and I have some 12v wall warts lying around but they are only 350mA, 500 mA and one that is 850 mA but happens to be only 10v. Is it necessary to retain sq that it stays between 1700 and 2000mA? I'll keep looking for something beefier.

I havn't decided whether I should remove the pot or not. This will be for my computer system so it might be a bit of a hassel to have to turn the volume up with the computer controls (say if I'm in a game). If I remove it I'll need to get myself a switch of some kind.

My wart was 1.2 amps, but lower will work if you install a cap on the output to charge up for reserve power.. and this thing wont even turn on without atleast 11 volts.. 9-10 and it only powers the led light. if you want an integrated type amp leave a volume pot however its not a regular volume control that can be mounted in a box.. you would need to install a stereo volume pot and just do away with the power control portion of the stock switch.. you can undertand better once you open it up and see inside... By the way remove the rubber feet to get to the screws... I searched forever to figure out how to open the darn case up, LOL

I found these will looking for parts to make a passive pre for my SI amp http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=58164&item=3866787026&rd=1
