Got one of the RTi12's pair on ebay...
...920 shipped (the other pair went on 960..); I feel good because I think it is a pretty good price....but on the flip side..I really don't need them....I am quite happy with what I have..but what the h.....it opens a world of possibilities...I could:
-Do nothing.....sell them and get my money back (probably the wise thing to do, but not fun at all...)
-Sell them, and upgrade my side/back surrounds.
-Sell my RTi8's, and get some more power for the front stage...
-Other ideas????
I guess I am starting to feel that need of getting something a little better...honestly after the SVS addition I cannot complaint, but it seems that that's how this "hobbie" is....
Let me know what you would do????

That sounds like the best idea to me. Now that you have them, treat them right.Current System:

I'm with the others. Sell the 8's and put it towards some muscle.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
Thanks for the input...this is exactly what I think I want to do...but will definitely need some help from you guys...
-should I get a 3 channel amp for fronts and center? or maybe a 2 channel (or 2 mono) just for the RTi12's?
-What would this do to the rest of the speakers if I leave them as is (i.e. 200W power for fronts and center......will I ever hear my surrounds again????
-What would speaker calibration look like if I have some speakers through amps and some through receiver? Still a flat 75 db for all?
Still need to learn a lot on this....so please help me..
Thanks!!_________________________________________________

You can get Outlaw M200 Monoblocks.....3 of them for $857 w/free shipping.....5 year warranty.Panasonic 50" Plasma + Pioneer 6010
Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD
Panasonic BD30 Blu-Ray
Pioneer 1014
Polk RTi12 (front)...Polk CSi5 (center)
Polk RTi4 (rear)...Velodyne DLS 5000-R Sub
3 Outlaw M-200 Amps -
I have an Adcom 5503 powering the woofers of the RTi12's and my CSi5 center....I have an Adcom 5400 (2x125) powering the upper end of the 12's...bi-amped.
I have our Denon powering side & rear surrounds, everything is calibrated, your mains will not "drown" out your side other surround speakers...
For a HT set-up I'm very happy with the Adcoms, for 2-channel,the Adcoms seem a little "dry"
More power does not mean"louder" just better quality sound... -
Thanks..... it's always nice to know you guys are willing to help rookies like me... I think I'm getting it....
I think I will keep watching that Adcom at ebay...though it has a reserve and might go too close to MSRP...
Those Outlaw are also a good option....from what I've seen here at the forum._________________________________________________

Hey there, this was my thought for my setup.
For my Rti10s or Rti12s (whichever I end up with) I was going to use a Crown XLS-602 2 Channel Amp for the mains and one of those Outlaw M200 Monoblocks for the center. The Crowns will give you some major power for the fronts and the Outlaw will be just about right for the center.
You can pick up a Crown amp off of ebay for pretty cheap and from what I hear, these are just about the best bang for the buck amps out there. The only thing you will need to get is a converter for the crown amps because they dont accept a straight RCA connection for the reciever. Well, that's my two cents, hope it helps.
PS. Here is a good place to pick up that converter cable I mentioned http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=2029&sku=40047 -
The Crowns get hot and they have fan noise so you might be bothered by the slight noise in a HT setup.....This is what I have heard.I have Crown amps for my bands PA and they get hot and have fan noise but that doesn't matter in that setup.Panasonic 50" Plasma + Pioneer 6010
Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD
Panasonic BD30 Blu-Ray
Pioneer 1014
Polk RTi12 (front)...Polk CSi5 (center)
Polk RTi4 (rear)...Velodyne DLS 5000-R Sub
3 Outlaw M-200 Amps -
Vgamer, you'll need to fix your link for the converter cable.......comment comment comment comment. bitchy.
-
I am looking at the Outlaws; saw that the consumption can be 600W each.....though I guess in a normal HT setup they won't reach their peak....seems that if I go with these (and maybe any other amp) I should place them in a dedicated 15 amp line? maybe 20 amp?
What do you guys have/think?_________________________________________________

I don't know if they still have them or not, but ubid.com recently had several refurbished Audiosource Amp 3 for less than $200 each shipped.
You could get 2 of them as they are bridgable and have yourself a pair of 400 watt monoblocks for under $1 a watt! You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger bang for the buck value than that.
I've thought about getting a couple myself for my pair of RTi12, but decided instead to keep an eye out for a second NAD C270 to go with the one I already have so I will then have a pair of 300 watt NAD monoblocks. -
Thanks for all the input...
Still thinking on what would be the right move; difference between the 12's and the 8's seems to be only bass...and my SVS throws what I think (and feel) is more than enough. I've also seen many threads where people prefer the 8's over the 12's if there is a good subwoofer...though I also understand this is just a personal preference.
So my current thinking is that I'll get power for the 3 front channels (leaning towards 3 outlaw 200), and just try that with both the 8's and the 12's and keep the ones that sound better for me...
On my earlier consumption question....I really think I'll just put whatever power I get in a dedicated 15A circuit; should be fairly easy because the breaker box is right behind my equipments..
Thanks again!!!_________________________________________________

I placed an order for three Outlaw 200M; I have one more question that speaks for my ignorance....
What cables should I use for connecting pre-outs to the amps? Digital or Analog??? Probably a few of you will laugh to this one...
Thanks._________________________________________________

You will need 3 pair of RCA Interconnects...Outlaw and MANY other companies sell cables...Blue Jean Cables sell quality interconnects at an affordable price...You can perform a search here and find more about cables than you ever read...
BTW,I have the 12's and an SVS PC-Ultra sub...you can never have too much BASS. -
Actually 3 cables....one for each AMP. Already got them from Outlaw (Had to buy 2 pairs......)

The ebay auction turned out to be a scam.....after one week of emailing the seller, he sent me this:
"hey, sorry i was out of town on vacation when the auction ended
...i got back and went to ups store to ship the speakers and i dropped one
of them on accident...so i opened it up to check it out and dented the lower
right corner...so i called polk and ordered another they said it should be
here within the next week i am sorry once again for the delay
thanks please get back to me"
So he buys from Polk to sell half price on ebay? I had already contacted the winner of the other pair, and he received exactly the same email....
Anyway, I sent him a couple of emails requesting a refund...but no response; I finally initiated the claim via Paypal....luckily the guy had the Paypal Protection up to $1,000, so I'll get my money back. The guy did have good feedback, so I wonder what might have made him screw up.....
What I did receive was the three Outlaw M200; I installed them with my RTi8's and CSi5, and yes, it sounds "better"; I cannot really explain how better, but it is noticeable; specially at high volumes... Is it $800 better??? Not sure yet...I'll give them a while and decide if I keep them later...
Thanks to all for your input._________________________________________________
