The movie with Sandra Bullock and Don Cheatle.......

I just saw it earlier tonight and it was interesting. I won't do any sort of judgement on it other than to say it was an interesting movie........one of those 'full circle' type of flicks that you watch the pieces fit......

This is the worst movie Ive ever seen!!!!

Basic jist is everybody is a racist and hates everybody else. We as humans all suck and should just die now as we have no redeeming qualities.

I cant post enough :rolleyes: 's to express my opinion of this stupid movie.

Just saw this one.

I won't be as harsh as MacLeod about it, though I definitely think they went a little overboard on it... but the drama was good, and the way everything fit together was interesting. The acting was top notch (except Ryan Phillipe... I really can't stand that kid). Basically, I really enjoyed it, despite not agreeing with the "politics" of it. If you don't mind a little preaching it's worht a rent...

I was disappointed in this one. I read a lot of great reviews, but there really wasn't much to it. Agreed, everyone seems to be a blatant racist (don't most people try to be a little less obvious about these attitudes?) and the story overall was very contrived. Every scene seemed to have this overbearing sense of weight and significance, without anything really ever coming to some kind of conclusion or epiphany. The good "slice of life" movies where everything fits together at least showcase some character development, but this was just pointless. And the direction the film takes Ryan Phillippe's character is just preposterous. An excuse for another scene of pointless gravity.
A swing and a miss.
For a good film with this type of "it all comes together" format, try "13 Conversations About One Thing." Much better than Crash.

I wonder if the folks were shwon as so racist so people would "get it". Kind of like Archie Bunker and George Jefferson.

I doubt it. I think the writer was just too heavy-handed. There are much subtler ways to make points about race issues than making a movie in which everyone is a racist. At least Archie Bunker was racist to an almost comic degree, and everyone around him knew it, which is what made it so effective. It exposed him as being ignorant. "Crash" just made it seem like we all hate each other.

surely wasn't what i was expecting from a sandra bullock movie... wasn't bad, the ending was better than the begining and it was alittle repetitive.. i said oh lets rent this, sandra bullock's in it and then they showed her what 2 times... weird, strange, different... not bad but not worth another watch or purchase

Yes, agree Gregure, if the rasicm was more subtle it would of been a more provacative film, to speak to the small racist in all of us. Coming to realize how thoughts become words to behaviors to habits to being judged by others as a racist. That sort of thing, cultures ARE different thank goodness, so is it a cultures norms and mores or is it racist.

Anyway, the film idea had great potential but fell short.

Please forgive me ahead of time.. i don't know all of you.. but if you look at this movie like I did thru the eyes of a minority.. (I'm Mexican/American) I think this movie has a different meaning. A lot of people for whatever reason have faced in their lifetime some kind of predjudice or discrimination. I can relate to some of this discrimination. Maybe not as blatantly as in the movie.. but at some level for sure.

I too found this movie overboard on some of the racist characters. I thought some of the actors did a good job. Some others were only so so. The way they weaved the storyline was very well done I thought.

I'd like to hear from other people who are minorities what their take on this movie is.

Don't get me wrong... I didn't think it was a great movie by any means.. it just makes you wonder if sometimes we're to quick to jump to conclusions and condemn someone without knowing all the facts behind it.

dunno. i'm half asian and can attest to the fact that asians CAN drive very well. ...but, with that said, was it the white or the asian in me that caused my recent fender-bender?:rolleyes: i brought that up because there were two instances where they portray the stereotype of asians not knowing how to drive.

i dunno, i dug the movie. alot of the racist plots and actions are not overly far-fetched. i had a ball with it. i laughed at much of it. but in the end, these things take place. dunno if many live in a shielded environment, but i see the shizz every day all around me. my work hires nothing but minorities.

I enjoyed the movie very much. Yes, its over the top, but that is necessary for this type of movie. Subtlety would not be appropriate here. I gotta agree with hydroponics, most people, even on the smallest level, are racist.

Now to quote a line from 'The Office' from Steve Carrell's character;

"Stanley, they're not called collard people, thats offensive."

Yeah, I'm Asian too and seeing that 2nd instance may have only reinforced it. I don't think it's a case where Asians are bad drivers, probably the case that there's a billion of us round here so the ratio looks higher than it is.

Was Crash supposed to be informative or entertaining? It was neither. The movie simply shed light on a major problem that has existed for hundreds of years. Virtually everyone knows that America, from its inception, is a racist nation. The movie never really addressed any sort of resolution to the problem, nor did it speak to its causes. IMO, Crash merely stated the obvious and was devoid of substance.

I felt it overstated the obvious, or perhaps, tried too hard to portray the obvious. Having people be racis, but try to hide it.. i.e. more subtle would be a little more true to reality.

there is a difference between making a good statement, and cramming sai statement down your throat. This movie could have been made so much beter in my eyes, and would have been far more effectivie in delivering its message.

Yeah, but America was built upon racism from its inception.

I agree, Crash could have been much better, maybe by allowing the characters to delve deeper into their how they "learned" to harbor racist thoughts and resent others simply because they are different. The movie merely skimmed the surface and didn't go far enough to expose racism for what it really is.

I loved the movie. I think many people have looked too deeply into this move, it wasn't meant to be the next Color Purple...it was about race but more importantly it was about people and powerfull scenes. I dug it. I bought the soundtrack.

Wow.. i watched Crash again last night... it's really good. I love the twists and turns in the movie.

worth a rewatch in my opinion.

I have to agree....Watching it a second time, i noticed many creative hooks that were missed the first time since I knew where the movie was headed. The simple scenes like the daughter buying bullets for her dad was mucher deeper the second time around (for me anyway):).

(opinion) One of the best movies i've ever seen -

Sometimes, in your face makes us uncomfortable when we can see a little of ourselves. Harmon's role was short, but the dialogue for her character was some seriously intense **** that I knooooow must have hit home for a lot of people.

The bottom line of the movie for me is - Everybody has story, and you never know what feeds one to think or do the things they do. Our prejudices (sp?) based on these experiences can lead to some intense situations ..... Great flick if you really get into it.
